Highro Glyphics Newsletter Week of June 10, 2020

CAC High School Principal’s Notes

Thank you for reading this school year’s final edition of Highro-Glyphics!

Dear parents,

This has been a year unlike any other. Our students have demonstrated resilience in the face of unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. They have continued their learning, friendships, and commitment to their community.

In recent days I have received many emails from parents and students thanking us for how we have worked to keep our students’ education going through this crisis. We want you to know that we also appreciate you. We know that you also have had to make adjustments, such as working from home, helping your children of varying ages stay on task, sharing bandwidth with your kids, traveling unexpectedly, keeping students engaged from distant locations and time zones, supporting them as they persevered, and facing many other challenges you could not have anticipated. Thank you.

Recently we have all witnessed painful reminders that the pandemic is not the only difficulty that needs to be addressed in our world. Racism remains a real, insidious, and persistent problem. Though events in the United States may be taking place far away, for many of us they have hit all too close to home. The High School fully supports the statement sent earlier today by our Head of School.

We wish you and yours a happy and healthy summer. While at this time we do not know what the state of the world will be in the coming months, and we do not know exactly what our learning platform will look like at the start of the next school year, we do know that we look forward to the moment our students resume classes on August 18.

Principal’s Notes Highlights:

● Yearbook Pickup
● Report Cards
● Graduation Survey
● Summer Assignments
● Moving on from CAC at the end of the year

Yearbook Pickup

Yearbooks may be picked up tomorrow from 1:00-3:00 pm in the Theater through the back gate (gate #3). Please refer to the email sent yesterday by Ms. McCall regarding the procedures.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available on Skyward on the afternoon of June 15.

Graduation Survey

Graduation for the class of 2020 has been postponed until August 14. Seniors were sent a survey to find out who anticipates being able to attend. If you are the parent of a senior, please make sure they check their school email and complete the survey. The survey will remain open throughout the summer, so it can be filled out again to reflect any changes in your family’s circumstances.

Summer Assignments

Summer IB HL assignments for the class of 2021 have been posted on CAC website. The typical expectation is 6-8 hours of required work over the summer. There is also a suggested reading list for the class of 2022.

Counseling Department Announcements

High School Families,

As the academic school year comes to an end, we want to wish you and your family good health for the upcoming summer break. After a very challenging spring semester, we can all use some time to rest and reduce screen time. We hope that you will take some time for self care and connecting with friends and family.

Since many of our summer plans have been postponed or cancelled, you may be looking for some type of activity to keep yourself engaged in something you are passionate about. Below are two links that have a plethora of opportunities to keep your mind engaged in activities that are positive and fun. The first link focuses on social-emotional well-being, mental health and physical health. The second link has more academic based options. Many are free or low cost, and although they do involve some screen time, it would be an activity of your own choosing, so you can pick one that suits your summer schedule.

We hope you are able to have a peaceful and restful summer break.

Student Physical Reminder for 2020/2021

Dear Parents,

If your student will be entering grades 3,6 or 9 next school year, we ask that he/she is seen and examined by a doctor, and a physical completed and sent to the health office on or before the first day of school in August.

We are more than happy to accept early completed physicals as of now, either by email or hand-delivered to security at the front gate.

Curbside delivery feedback, please

If you used our library curbside delivery service during these last months, please fill out this survey to let us know how we did.

Happy summer reading!

Thank you to all for a great year, even if it did have a different ending than we expected!

You still have time to return library books. Drop them off at the front gate. It helps if you label them with “For MHS library” to make them easy to see.

Returning students can request an extension on their books’ due dates until August 18. Please email Mrs. Fitzgerald, librarian@cacegypt.org or Ms. Lena, lrezk@cacegypt.org.

Follow the MHS library on Instagram, @cacegyptlibrary, this summer for reading recommendations and book related posts. Take a #shelfie (selfie with a book) and tag with #CACEgyptReads.

Sora is the portal to our ebook and digital audiobook collection. It is open 24/7! Log in with your CAC single sign on when you are asked for a Follett account. A screencast tutorial on how to access is here.
