Highro Glyphics Newsletter Week of August 19, 2021

CAC High School Principal’s Notes

Dear High School Parents,

Welcome to the start of the 2021-22 school year and welcome also to the first edition of this year’s Highro-Glyphics weekly newsletter that I will send out every Thursday.

The year is off to a flying start and the wonderful, positive energy of the first two days with students on campus has continued into today. We are all enjoying seeing smiling faces and happy students back after the holiday and now the serious business of getting down to studies is getting started. By now students have visited all their classes, met all their teachers and learned about the expectations of their courses for the year ahead (or two years for the IB students), and many of them will have also signed up for some athletics and activities at the A&A Fair during lunchtime yesterday and today.

At the start of the year, I would like to celebrate our new students and faculty members who have joined the community this year. So far, we have 42 new students joining to give us a total number of just over 300 students. We have 42 different nationalities represented in the student community at the moment–a true reflection of CAC’s diversity and internationalism; two defining characteristics of which the school is very proud. We are also thrilled to welcome eight new faculty members to our team:

• Mr. David Burton – English
• Mr. Bobby Cowles – Economics and TOK
• Ms. Meghan Ennis – MS/HS Librarian
• Dr. Matthew Parnell – History and Global Politics
• Ms. Tatiana Petrovna – Aquatics Director
• Ms. Paulette Smith – Biology
• Ms. Odete Spence – Chemistry
• Mr. Brian Thorburn – Design Technology and Robotics

As I mentioned in my welcome letters last week, we are currently in Phase Three of Covid-19 mitigations, the details of which you can learn about by reading through the Covid-19 Operational Manual which is available for download on our website. It is worth familiarising yourself with the procedures and to remember that CAC will adapt and adjust as needed in response to the conditions of the pandemic here in Egypt with the aim to maintain face-to-face learning as far as possible while keeping the community as safe as possible.

Another reminder that you can access the 2021-22 Student-Parent Handbook on our website. Please take a moment to look this over and be sure to consult it if you have some specific questions about the programs, policies and procedures in the high school.

Food Vendor and Spare App info

We are happy to inform you that now:

• Sincerely V is serving food for HS and MS via online pre-ordering through the Spare app until further notice.
• Online pre-ordering is available at Zentro through the Spare app (until their booth is ready on campus).
• On-campus ordering should be allowed at Fino starting next week (Sunday). No online pre-ordering.
• Coffee Bean is serving HS students both on campus and online.
• Grecco is serving HS students on campus. No online pre-ordering.

The Spare system uses smart technology connected to a mobile application on which you will be able to recharge your son/daughter’s balance (set budget) and set a limit for their spending. Accounts may be recharged via credit card in-app or with cash on campus, at the Booster Club Spirit Store on campus. Students use their IDs to purchase items on campus, or parents may purchase items for them using the Spare app.

The menu of pre-order items from HS vendors will be available in the Spare app. To view the menu, click on “Online Store”. Orders can be placed until 7:00am the day of the pick up. Orders placed after 7:00am will not be delivered and will be refunded.

To open a Spare account and pair your child ID card, please follow the instructions sent to you via email on August 18 or click here for instructions. Please ignore these steps if your account is already paired.
