Highro Glyphics Newsletter Week of August 26, 2021

CAC High School Principal’s Notes

One of the defining features of the last week has been the warm and friendly welcome I have received from the students. I have lost count now of the number of times a student has come up to introduce themself or to ask me a question about where I’m from, or to share some thought or other that they feel like sharing. I love this! Not only does it make me feel personally welcomed, it also speaks to something much bigger about the sense of community and the values our students adhere to and model. This respectful, curious and open-minded approach to communication is a key component of an international education and an important character trait of a globally minded citizen.

Activities and Athletics have started!

It has been wonderful to see so many students come out to the season one athletics tryouts this week. Aspiring athletes in soccer, volleyball and cross country have attended three gruelling sessions this week, showcasing their skills and positive attitudes towards teamwork and friendly competition. Also getting up and running this week is our broad selection of activities and clubs. Activities such as Model United Nations, Papyrus, robotics, Green Team and Student Council, to name but a few. Please encourage your child/ren to sign up and take the opportunity to get involved in the full life of the school. The benefits for their health, fitness and mental well-being will be immediately apparent and long lasting.

Opportunities for Partnership

This year’s Back to School Night event (BTSN) will be on Wednesday 1 September and will be fully online again, as it was last year. The BTSN is an opportunity for parents to “meet” their child’s teachers and learn a little bit about the courses they are enrolled in. Each teacher will produce a short introductory video which parents will be able to view by following the links posted on the CAC Dashboard. The event will open with a live Zoom presentation at 5:00 p.m. We will send the Zoom link to you via email next week. I look forward to seeing you on Zoom at that time.

There are several other opportunities for parents to connect with each other and the school next week, both virtually and face to face here on campus. The PTO is hosting their first open meeting on Zoom on Sunday 29 August followed by a welcome coffee morning on campus for all HS families who are new to CAC on Thursday, September 2. I will be hosting the first Principal’s Coffee on Tuesday 31 August. I hope to see you at these important introductory events and meetings and look forward to meeting you and answering any questions you may have. (times, dates and venues are listed below).

Covid-19 Update

We are doing our part to be responsible by maintaining the layered mitigation protocols we have in place. We are asking that you maintain a level of mitigation and caution at home as well. We are in this together, and if we work in partnership we will be stronger. This is something which we learned last school year.
