Highro Glyphics Newsletter Week of September 2, 2021

It was wonderful to welcome many parents to the first Principal’s Coffee this week. More than 60 parents attended the face-to-face session where we talked about how the school’s mission, vision and core values underpin the educational program and inform decisions in the high school. The slides I used can be accessed here.

We will continue to host these events on a monthly basis and look forward to welcoming parents to join us in thinking through some of the educational issues and topics that emerge from the school’s Strategic Plan. Our next coffee morning will be on October 5.

Back to School Night

Although an online event does not have the same community building feel as a face-to-face event, one benefit is that parents can have more flexibility in how and when they access the information shared. To that end, please note that the teachers’ introductory videos are still available for viewing on the CAC Dashboard and if you have not yet had a chance to view them, you may do so at your convenience this weekend.

Skyward Gradebook

The grade book section of Family Access will allow students and parents to view student progress each fortnight, starting at 4pm every other Thursday starting today till Sunday at 8am. This early in the semester, some courses might not have assignments posted yet. Teachers are available to speak to students face to face about progress and academic performance.

Upcoming G12 events

Our Seniors have a busy few weeks ahead of them (indeed, a busy year) and we get that off to a flying start with the Senior College Night on Tuesday 7th September. Please see more information from the Counselling team and in the email sent by Mr Simon earlier today. The following week, we invite all Grade 12 parents to attend an information evening about the IB with Mr Williams, our IB and Curriculum Coordinator.

NESA Parents as Partners webinar series

Join with parents across the NESA region to hear from distinguished specialists and to explore and learn new strategies in support of your child as a learner. Years of research reveal that schools that partner with parents positively impact student growth and achievement. This series will address child development within the context of family and school.

Webinars will take place Tuesdays twice a month, September to December, 2021 (First Semester), and January to April, 2022 (Second Semester), 4:00-5:00pm Athens, Greece, time (GMT+3 / GMT+2 as of October 31).

You can find more details on the NESA website here.

Have you heard of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at CAC? Click here to Learn more about it.
The PTO is inviting our community members to join its DEI committee. Please email cacptodei@cacegypt.org if your interested in joining the committee and/or becoming a Language Liaison.

The Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Team are beginning the work on our AIM survey, to gather information about the CAC community’s perceptions of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. There will be a survey, to be administered in October, followed by focus groups. One of the constituent groups we will survey is parents. We’d like to get parent input on the planning side, if there is anyone interested and available to work with us on this.

Planning would involve some time in the next few weeks to review documentation about the survey and at least one face-to-face meeting with us to review the focus group’s plans. Much of this could be done asynchronously. You’re also welcome to join us in our meetings – these will be on Tuesday, Sep 7, and Tuesday, Oct 5, from 3:30-5:00pm.
