Highro Glyphics Newsletter Week of September 9, 2021

Things continue apace here in the high school as we come to the end of the fourth week of the school year. Our sports teams are enjoying their practices (despite the heat!) and there are soon a few games coming up for them where they can test their developing skills in a competitive setting. Students also have Spirit Week, Peace Day and a Student Council hosted movie night to look forward to soon.

We have the first of our monthly Early Release Days next week on Tuesday 14th September. Students will be dismissed from campus to go home at 11:30 a.m. During the afternoon, our faculty will be working collaboratively on curriculum development. This year, we are focussing on the transition between and alignment of the curriculum between middle and high school. Teachers will work in department teams to examine and enhance this critical transition point between the two divisions. Middle and high school are often perceived as two very different educational experiences and while it is true that there are many differences, both middle school and high school teachers can learn a great deal from each other by drawing on the specific strengths of each division and applying them appropriately within their own curriculums and classrooms.

If you have not already done so, we encourage you to subscribe as a guardian to your child/ren’s Google Classrooms so that you can receive the daily or weekly email summaries. These summaries inform guardians of the work that has been set and what is still outstanding / overdue. It’s a great way to know if your child is keeping on top of their work and can facilitate concrete conversations at home about what your child is learning right now.

NESA Parents as Partners webinar series

Join with parents across the NESA region to hear from distinguished specialists and to explore and learn new strategies in support of your child as a learner. Years of research reveal that schools that partner with parents positively impact student growth and achievement. This series will address child development within the context of family and school.

The second webinar in the series will take place on Tuesday 21 September and will focus on The Science of Attention. You can find more details on the NESA website here.
