CAC High School Principal’s Notes

US Ambassador visits CAC

A busy day at CAC

Yesterday, we ran some special scheduling for all grade levels with PSAT exams, a wellbeing retreat for Grade 9, and specific interest-based / academic seminars for our Grade 12s. With snacks provided by our wonderful Booster Club volunteers to keep the hungry students satisfied, the morning was a resounding success. Students and faculty reported that the time was both enjoyable and valuable for them. This initiative grew from the work CAC is doing in relation to the Strategic Plan Pillar #2: “Cultivating and supporting student and staff wellbeing.” Look out for more events of this nature during the year.

US Ambassador visits CAC

Also yesterday afternoon, we were very pleased to host a visit from the United States Ambassador to Egypt, Jonathan Cohen, who came to speak to our CAC Model United Nations (MUN) delegates. The students listened to the ambassador’s key-note speech in which he told them how his own interest and subsequent career in international diplomacy began through participating in MUN events when he was a student. In addition to his speech, Ambassador Cohen took questions from the students and discussed various geopolitical issues with them. This experience gave our students a fascinating insight into the work of an ambassador and international political decision-making processes in our modern world. It was an exceptional event and a wonderful start to our own MUN event.

CACMUN

And on that note, the 43rd annual CACMUN got underway today and will continue through the weekend. More than 60 students are participating in this year’s event and as I type they are busy preparing, debating, researching and writing resolutions for discussion and decisions.. This type of work truly embodies the CAC Core Values and, with the explicit focus on internationalism and global mindedness, is a cornerstone of an exceptional international education.

Conferences and Reports

Yesterday we emailed you regarding parent teacher conferences. Please read over that information and be ready to sign up for appointments when the system opens on Sunday. This time, we are trialling a combination of face-to-face and online meetings to allow for maximum flexibility for parents. Some parents prefer to meet in person while for others, the flexibility of online conferences allows for easier attendance. Please choose the format that best suits your schedule on the 25th and/or 26th October.

Also, don’t forget, your child’s Q1 progress report will be available for viewing in Skyward next week after 3:00 p.m. on the 18th October.

Emailing CAC

Have you been having trouble with your emails to CAC not being delivered, or going to teachers’ spam mail? Please see this note from our Technology Office to help address the issue of emails going missing.

Since we provide a @cacegypt.org account to each one of our parents, every email we receive from external addresses under the same name is labeled as a phishing attempt, therefore those emails are immediately labeled as spam and sent to the spam folder.

To prevent this situation, we whitelisted all the personal emails that parents provided in the admission process; due to this, all the matching emails are received without any problem.

If you are experiencing problems with mails not being received or going to spam, it may be that you are using another personal email which is not registered on Skyward. To rectify this issue, please login to Skyward and update your records to match the email address you will be using to email CAC.

If you have any further problems or need help with any technology related issues, please contact our technology team directly: technology@cacegypt.org | mabdelhady@cacegypt.org

We have three upcoming university visits we would like to highlight for you.

City-Wide University Fair – October 18th & 19th, 6:00-9:00 pm

We strongly encourage all high school students to attend this unique online university fair.
Along with 8 other schools in Cairo, CAC has organized a large virtual university fair through the Novva platform on October 18th & 19th. As this will take place on two evenings, there should be a time where you can login. This will be a replacement to our annual on-campus event that was done in past Octobers.

Currently 80+ universities from Canada, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, USA, and the UK will be participating. This will be a great opportunity for students and parents to explore a wide variety of universities and programs. If you are applying to UToronto this year, don’t miss this session. Please register here for this session here.

The American University in Cairo – Nov 4th, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

During the HS Lunch hour, members of the admission team from AUC will be visiting CAC. More details about this visit will be sent out in late October.

List of Upcoming University Visits

The counselors receive quite a few invitations to attend online events that universities are hosting. We don’t announce all of these, but we keep track of them on the HS Counseling Resources website. Explore this page to see the dozens of upcoming events you could attend from universities around the world.

Seniors

Document Request Forms (DRFs) After submitting an application to a university, students should download the receipt showing proof that the application has been submitted. This receipt should be turned in to the counseling office with a Document Request Form (DRF) specific to the country applied to, indicating what documents need to be sent by CAC, to where, and how.

This should be done for each and every application that is submitted. Paper copies of the DRF are located outside of the counseling office, and the digital versions in addition to further instructions can be found here. Please contact your counselor if you have any questions.
