Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Cairo American College and the 2019 – 20 school year! We thank you for reading the first edition of the News and Views for this school year. News and Views are our weekly Middle School publication, and we use it to communicate with our community, highlight Middle School student learning experiences and happenings during the week, and keep you updated about future events. Please be on the lookout for it every Thursday.

We started this week with about 213 Middle School students in attendance. Both the students and faculty are excited to begin the school year and our journey together. We met with students within advisory this week to get to find out who they are, and what is their passion so we can help them flourish. We hope that you have heard good things from your child about their first week of the school year. In addition to welcoming back our returning 7th and 8th graders, we also welcomed new students to the CAC Middle School, as well as, sixty-sixth graders.

We extend a warm welcome back to all students and families. Whether you have returned for another year of Middle School or joined the Middle School community this year, the new school year is always a time of transitions. If we can be of any service or help to you, do not hesitate to contact us.

This year, we are fortunate to have four passionate teachers joining an already active group of teachers in the middle school. The teachers are:
Matt Coles – from Cameroon – Language Arts/Social Studies/World Views
Alan Storey – from Amsterdam – Science
Alex Dzamashvili – from Cairo – Strings
Bonnie Coles – from Cameroon – Aquatics Coordinator

During our meeting with our students this week, we have highlighted our strong sense of community grounded in our school-wide core values of compassion, courage, responsibility, respect, integrity, perseverance, and creativity.

I am looking forward to another outstanding year of teaching and learning in middle school.

In Partnership,
Courtney

From the MS/HS Library

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! We wish you a year full of success and books!

Bookmark the library catalog: library.cacegypt.org – It’s full of resources for academic and leisure purposes.

The CAC libraries are ready to receive our students with new books and materials. New print books are displayed at the entrance of the library. Our ebooks and digital audiobooks are now available via the Sora app. It can be found for all platforms of mobile devices. You will need to log in with your CAC single-sign-on (everything in your email address before the @ sign) and password. The app will call it a Follett sign in, but it’s just your CAC username and password.

Please return all summer checkouts as soon as possible. Overdue notices will go out next week. If you need to know what items you have checked out, log in to the library catalog from your school (ES or MHS) and look for the tab called “My Info.” That will list all of the items you have out.

The Little Free Library continues to offer titles of all types. You’re welcome to take books from it and you’re invited to add books to it too. Please choose carefully when donating a book to the LFL; what you’re actually doing is passing a book to a dear friend in our community, so do pick something you have really enjoyed. There will be opportunities for more indiscriminate donations of used books later on in the year.

The library continues to be a space for quiet, productive work. We had students coming in to study in the library during on the very first day of school and even during the teacher in-service days before we were officially open, so we know that the community appreciates the space as a place to study and research.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with shelving and other clerical projects at both libraries. Please contact librarian@cacegypt.org if you would be interested in helping us out.

Stay up to date with news and information from the MHS library by following us on social media.

We hope you got a lot of reading in during the summer. Please post a shelfie (a selfie with a book) and tag it with #CACEgyptReads so we can all see what you read this summer.
