Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. First and foremost, I would like to thank our new parents who attended the New Parents’ Coffee morning. Secondly, I want to thank all the parents who attended our virtual Back to School Night. I wish I could have given you a personal tour of the building, but hopefully soon.

We are aware that not all parents managed to make it to the advisory session, and not all parents have gone on the dashboard to see their child’s teacher’s video. Accordingly, we will leave those up for another week.

We hope that you had an opportunity to put a name to your child’s teachers’ faces through the virtual Back to School Night presentation. We are looking forward to when we can have our students all back on campus. In the meantime, we have completed week two, and students and teachers are practicing all the stack measures that we have in place.

We know it is easy to fall back into the old ways of doing things, but we must continue our efforts to promote and demonstrate health and safety measures like Washing hands, Wearing Masks at all times, and Physical distancing. Everyone has done a fantastic job coming together to support our safe reopening guidelines, and it is time now to keep up the hard work at home.

According to the WHO, teenagers need at least an hour of moderate to vigorous activity per day. Anyone who has tried to sit through dinner with a wiggly child can see that the human body is made to move. Given our mitigation protocols at school, our students are now receiving physical education once per week. However, making sure teenagers keep moving, despite the constraints of dinnertime, screens, online learning, and our sedentary culture, can help set good life habits. The researchers emphasize that all physical activity matters, not just the heart-pounding variety. As much as possible, make movement a family affair, and everyone will benefit.

Thank you for your continuous support of the Middle School.

In Partnership,

Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal

BSA Scout Troop 701
Established in 1998

Troop 701 meets Sunday nights from 6:30pm – 8:00pm in the Middle School Gym at Cairo American College. [note: Due to COVID our meetings are virtual until further notice].

Our community service projects have benefited local underprivileged communities in Maadi and the downtown area as well as communities serving the refugee population in Cairo.

Our outdoor activities have included hiking, canoeing, swimming, and cooking among many other skills. Our campouts take us to the North Coast, the Red Sea coast, Wadi Degla Protectorate and other cool places in Egypt.

We pride ourselves on building a positive and safe environment for our Scouts to grow and challenge themselves and their abilities through activities that foster team building with positive encouragement.

The troop is open to boys 11-18 years old. To join BSA Troop 701 or to inquire about our troop activities, please contact our Scoutmaster, Matthew Miller at troop701cairo@gmail.com.

From the MS/HS Library

Community hours for the CAC libraries
Both CAC libraries will be open on Saturdays between 10 and 2 for our parents, faculty and students, for 30 minute appointments. Please book your time on the CAC Dashboard where you see “Campus Facilities Online Appointments.”

You will be asked for the number of people coming. If you are a parent, please include your child/ren in the count. We can only have 10 patrons in the library at a time. Appointment requests are only accepted until Friday, at 7 pm. You will not be able to come on to campus without an appointment.

Please note that library community hours are ONLY for Saturdays at this time. The weekday lunchtime appointment slots are only for HS students.

Parents can only check out on Saturdays. We will resume holds delivery in a modified format when we have received all the students’ books back from the summer.

Return your books!
We hope everyone read lots during the summer holidays, but it’s time to return the physical books to the libraries. Thank you to those who already have.

There are still 446 books out from the MHS library and over 900 from the ES library. Let’s get them all back please.

Overdue notices will go out on Sunday, after we have checked in the books in quarantine from today. (As a COVID19 precaution, we quarantine books for 72 hours before returning them to the shelves.)
