Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. We have completed week five of the Blended Learning Program. Students and teachers are doing their best to follow the mitigation procedures. While this is challenging for everyone, we must continue to do what is best for us as a community.

We started the week with a PEACE Day celebration. Both students and faculty wore white to school on Sunday and Monday, and students in the MS/HS Strings class performed during lunch.

It was that time of year again to hold our STUCO elections, and our students mesmerized us with their speeches. We wish they all could be the president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary. However, out of the fifteen students who participated, there were only four positions to be filled. Congratulations to all the participants for displaying our core values of Perseverance and Courage.

On Sunday, October 11th, we will be issuing our first Progress Report Cards. We will be reporting out on the student’s commitment to online learning and their Approaches to Learning (ATLs). Considering that students are doing online learning from home three times per week, we need to give them feedback and hold them accountable for their learning.

  • Their report cards will include a new ATL labeled “Commitment to Online Learning.”
  • Standard ATL feedback (Consistently, Usually, Sometimes, and Rarely) will be used to assess the students’ commitment to online learning.
  • Only students receiving Rarely in the ATLs at school, or online, will receive a comment.
  • New students will receive a comment welcoming them to CAC.

In six-grade Math, students continued their study of geometric figures, area, and surface area, specifically targeting parallelograms and triangles. Students were designing, decomposing, and rearranging figures in and out of class, comparing shapes to discern relationships, and using mathematical algorithms to calculate area.

In seventh-grade physical education, we continued our study and practice of fitness in class through various movements that, if done as a part of a regular exercise routine, will increase explosiveness, quickness, and endurance. We also introduced the game of Cornhole in this week’s classes to offer students a fun yet challenging game as a reward for their fitness work. During student’s off-campus days, students engaged-in and documented their physical activities, as well as reflected on their overall well-being and long and short-term goals in physical fitness.

Virtual Tea for Grade 6 Parents
We would like to invite 6th-grade parents to attend an afternoon Virtual Tea on Monday, September 28 th from 3:30 – 4:30 to check in with you after the first few weeks in Middle School. We will discuss strategies for success, technology, classes, and the social/ emotional aspects of middle schoolers. We are here to answer questions you may have to support your child’s success in Middle School. Since we are social distancing, a link to the Virtual Tea will be sent to your email before the event. If you have any questions, please contact Rana Harouny at rahouny@cacegypt.org or Bridgette Spencer at bspencer@cacegypt.org

I encourage you to please update your calendars to reflect that October 6th will be a school day (E1), and October 8th will be the holiday with no classes. In conjunction with the home school partnership, please note the critical importance for all of our school community to carefully adhere to coronavirus mitigation if deciding to travel domestically. A focus on health and safety must continue to steer all that we do during the pandemic.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,

Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal

From the MS/HS Library

CAC libraries on Saturdays
As we get ready to allow the ES students in to the library to browse and checkout, we have made more changes to the ES library. For our parents who visit the ES library on Saturdays, please expect the library to look a little different. Signs on the door will outline the set up for students during the week and for parents on Saturdays. You can preview the poster here.

The MHS library will remain the same.

To make a 30 minute appointment to visit our libraries on Saturdays, please log in to the CAC dashboard and look for the box “Campus Facilities Online Booking.”
