Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. We have completed another week safely by adhering to the health and safety mitigation protocols. Looking at the phase reopening rubric, we will eventually enter into phase two.
Thank you to our teachers and parents for your participation in the virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday and Tuesday. Although it was new for everyone involved, thanks to the creativity of Mona Abdel Hady in the tech office, things went very smoothly for the most part. We realized that doing a virtual conference is less stressful for parents and teachers. If you missed an appointment and would like to see the teacher, I encourage you to reach out and organize a Google Meet.
We hope that after the conference, you take the opportunity to sit down with your child and discuss how they can continue or improve their approach to learning. The Approach to Learning is an indicator of how the child will master the standards studied in each unit. If your child is struggling emotionally, please inform our counselor, Ms. Spencer, to provide support. We realize that students are not getting the same amount of physical activities regularly, which might impact their socio-emotional well-being.
Kudos! To the following parents: Rhea Jacobs, Carmen Allison, Elizabeth Kennedy, Cindy Chen, Hazel Birchall, and Sema Saurav of the Booster Club. They did a fantastic job designing the pumpkin patch. We are looking forward to the photo opportunities it will provide next week when students come to school in their Halloween costumes.
There is so much we can learn from our students. How can we appreciate the good things in our lives, even when we’re struggling? What would happen if we all recognized how much kindness we receive from others? Recently, six of our middle school students did something truly remarkable. It was the birthday of one of the students and he told his friends not to give him a gift. Instead they gave him money. He then took the money and invited them to go grocery shopping. They purchased bags of staple food and drove around Maadi with their parents and gave it to the people in need around the Midans. I have said it many times, our students are good people.
A reminder that next week Tuesday, October 27th, will be an Early Release Day (ERD). The school day will be an E-day in the rotation, and the day will end at 11:30 am. Our success depended not only upon the efforts we make at school but also upon families practicing safe social distancing away from campus. Please remember the 4 W’s: Wash Your Hands, Wear Your Mask, Watch Your Distance, and Work Together.

Halloween in Middle School
🎃👻 Happy Howl-oween! – Send a Trick or Treat
The most fa-BOO-lous (Fangtastic) time of the year is here!
The Student Council has organized delicious Halloween cookies and new BOO-tiful Halloween masks.
Deliveries will be made on Sunday, Oct 25 (group 1) and Monday, Oct 26 (group 2) in advisory.
Halloween Celebrations Are Almost Here 🎃👻
Come dressed up in your best Halloween costume on Sunday and Monday, October 25 and 26. We will be celebrating Halloween in the Middle School with a costume competition and other festivities. Costume competition categories include:
• Scariest
• Most Creative
• Best Impersonation
Winners will receive goody bags filled with delicious Halloween candy. Costumes MUST follow school dress code guidelines and you must wear your regular face mask. NO fake guns, knives or other inappropriate Halloween accessories.
Let’s have some fun and show Halloween Spirit!
Halloween Raffle 🎃
This year the Student Council is organizing a raffle with many prizes of Halloween Treats!
To Enter you MUST:
1. Come dressed in a Halloween costume
2. Or bring an item for charity (eg. bag of rice, toothpaste, bar of soap)
3. If you have done one of the above, you are allowed to buy up to a maximum of 2 extra tickets per student. Each extra ticket costs 20 L.E for added chances of winning the raffle.

Happy Halloween From the Booster Club
The Booster Club is working together with HS/MS STUCO to provide you with some SPOOKTACULAR fun next week!
Come Sunday and Monday dressed in your favorite costumes/Spirit Wear/PJs and have some
lunchtime fun on the MS field.
There will be a “red carpet” for you to show off on with spooky music and other surprises.
Don’t worry there will be sure to be “Treats” for all of your “Tricks”!!!
There will also be “selfie” stations set up with some scary backdrops to let you spook up your social media. Can’t wait to SCARE you all there!!!

CAC Libraries Open This Weekend
The CAC libraries will be open this Saturday, October 24, but closed on Saturday, October 31.

You can book a 30-minute appointment slot on the CAC parent dashboard’s “CAC Campus Facilities Online Booking” form. Bookings are accepted until Fridays at 7 pm and a week in advance.
You can access the booking system through the new CAC School Stream app. Click “CAC” at the bottom of the screen, then scroll down to “Parents Dashboard.” You will be prompted to log in, which you’ll do with your parent CAC single sign on. Look for the “CAC Campus Facilities Online Booking” link and follow the prompts.
