Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. I hope you had a chance to enjoy the Eid break with your family. We had a four-day week of teaching, learning, and exploring. With the end of the semester fast approaching, students will be preparing for summative assessments all of next week.

We ask that you help your child by making sure they are getting enough rest at night. One way of doing this is to remove all electronic devices from their bedroom. When they are studying for a test, they should use the Pomodoro Technique.

On Tuesday, May 25th, will be our Student-led Conference. You should have received a google calendar invite and a letter inviting you to attend the conference from your child, as well as an email from me explaining why your participation is vital for your child.

It has been a tradition to have a Recognition Night Ceremony for our eighth-grade students. We have set aside for this year’s event on June 8th at 6:00 pm on the middle school field. Each student can invite two guests to attend the ceremony. We will also be asking parents to access the campus from different entrances depending on their last name.

If we cannot bring parents on campus, we will hold the ceremony on June 8th, video the event, and share it with parents. More information to come.

It is common each year for us to say thank you to the teachers who are moving on. We appreciate all that they have contributed over the years to make the middle school a special place. This year we have Mr. Brown moving on to Italy, Mr. Coles and his family moving on to Cambodia, Ms. Morris and her family moving on to the Philippines. The following teachers are changing roles in the school and will no longer be in the middle school; Ms. Petrovna will be the aquatics coordinator, and Ms. Ennis will be the MS/HS librarian. Ms. Smith is retiring, and so is Ms. Fitzgerald.

As we prepare to send the eighth-graders off to ninth grade and welcome the fifth graders, we prepared something special this week. The eighth-graders had their STUCO election speech. The speeches were all well written and delivered. Congratulations to the the following students for being selected to be the 2021-2022 Class of 2025 Leadership Team:

President: Tia Fikry
Vice President: Hannah Abdelshahid
Secretary: Ayman Shahzad
Treasurer: Hoda Abou Ghali

Thank you to Ms. Torky, the eighth-grade team leader, for organizing the event.

Ms. Spencer and a panel of 6 six-graders did a virtual Q&A with the incoming 5th-graders. It was a part of the transition process for our incoming sixth-graders. The six grade panel students were: Tisya Singh
Amin Marei, Aminah Shahzad, Isaak Tschekunow, Judy Elwy, Jongyoon Kim.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,

Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal

8th Grade Transition Meeting

Dear 8th grade parents! The high school counselors will hold a Web Ex meeting on Thursday, May 27th during your 8th grader’s advisory to talk about the 8th to 9th grade transition. Your student is almost a high schooler!!! We want to go over a few topics of interest that will help your student get ready for being in 9th grade next August. We will have current CAC 9th graders talk to them about what helped them when they were new in high school this year, and 8th graders can ask them questions as well. We look forward to our conversation with them! Ms. Bean, Mr. Semler & Mr. Simon

Student physical requests for 2021/22
If your student will be entering grades 3,6 or 9 next school year, we ask that he/she is seen and examined by a doctor, and a physical form completed and sent to the health office on or before the first day of school in August.
We are more than happy to accept early completed physicals as of now, either by email or hand-delivered to security at the front gate.
