Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for reading this week’s News and Views. It was a week of acknowledging our students in competitions and activities where they can showcase their talents.

We started the week with the MESAC wrestling competition. The tournament was organized by the athletic and  PE department. It had been a decade since CAC hosted a MESAC event.

It showcased our wrestlers and the hard work and dedication they put into training to prepare for the tournament.

The level of professionalism and attention to detail exhibited by the athletic department was commendable. Everything was flawlessly executed, From when the teams arrived on campus to the final match. The facilities were well maintained, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for athletes and spectators. The tournament’s organization ran smoothly, with prompt scheduling, clear communication, and efficient management of matches.

The rigorous competition challenged our athletes and helped them grow individually and as a team. Witnessing the passion and determination of each wrestler inspired our younger students.

The attendance at the tournament was spectacular, and the wrestlers fed off the home-court advantage with a resounding victory in several weight classes. Well done wrestlers!

Once again, thank you to all the folks who worked behind the scenes to help organize an unforgettable MESAC wrestling tournament. We will remember this event and look forward to our wrestling program’s continued growth and success at CAC.

I also want to thank Carmen and the parents volunteers of the Booster Club for giving up their time to ensure the athletes and spectators were fed each day. Your efforts do make a difference. Thank you!

The performing arts department welcomes script writer Ian Pike to campus on Sunday. For the International Schools Theatre Association, he has traveled the world working at theatre festivals in just about every continent and with every age group.  Ian spent the week working with students across all three divisions.

Tonight, we are hosting our annual Talent Show. This is one of the most anticipated events of the school year. Students who participated return to watch the show and have fun memories when they display courage and go on stage to perform. We hope you purchase a ticket and join in the fun tonight. A reminder that tickets are sold at the door.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for reading this week’s News and Views. It was a week of celebration.

As I shared last week, we had Jordan Hattar on campus to share his experience with students about his work with refugees. On Sunday, one of the students approached me and said, ” Jordan has a lot of courage and compassion. ” My response was yes, he does it because he cares. That is why we have those two words in our core values; everyone should live with them.

The 2023/2024 Battle of the Books has a winner!  This week the final four teams competed for the win!  They made it through 4 rounds and 144 very difficult questions to make it to the finals.  These teams were Bob 2.0, The Drama Llamas, Triple Threats, and our winners The Reading Racers (Valerie Davis, Kassidy Corley, Avery Hopson, and Sanyu Ssebunnya).

Over 50 students competed in this year’s Battle of the Books in 14 different teams.  We love seeing our students excited about reading!

The library has also issued the next reading challenge for our students – the Jennifer L Holm Reading Challenge!  Students are encouraged to read as many of this author’s books as they can before her visit in April.

We also recognized the 5Es recipient during the assembly on Tuesday after the BoB finals.

The ATL recipients were also recognized for their (Consistency) in all their classes.

Congratulations to the students who participated in last week’s Wrestling tournament. We are proud of you for participating in a sport that will help you mentally, physically, and emotionally.

We are hosting the MESAC Wrestling competition this week, and we hope to see you there cheering on the students.

The Talent Show tickets went on sale this week. This year’s event is on Thursday, February 8th. Be sure to get your tickets before it is too late. Tickets purchased in advance are 150LE and 200LE at the door.

On Monday, the future seventh-graders were introduced to how to select their electives for next year (2024-25). Please sit down with your child and assist them in making the correct choices because they have a passion or to challenge themselves with something new. While we have plenty of electives to choose from, they may not get one of their choices this year; however, they will in the future.

This is a reminder that Skyward will be open an extra two days next week to give students who have yet to make their selection a chance to do so.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a short week of solid learning, exploring, and having fun.

Welcome back to our AMIS Choir students and Mr. McCuaig. The students represented our school as true ambassadors. We are proud of them for all their hard work and dedication, which provided them with an enriching experience.

Last Monday, we took a few Theater and Social Studies classes to the annual European Film Festival in the historic Zawya Cinema, Downtown Cairo. “Over ten days, the Festival showcases some of the latest award-winning feature and documentary films, as well as cinematic landmarks and classics from all over Europe.” (from the European Film Festival). The middle school drama students joined High School Film and History students to watch “The Old Oak,” followed by a filmmaker discussing the film. This film is based on true stories of Syrian refugees immigrating to the villages of rural England. This movie addresses numerous themes tied to our Social Justice unit, including refugees, community, prejudice, and humanity.  For the theater students, we focused on creative choices, why they are made, and how to tell a story through film. This was also a great way to work across disciplines. For more information about the European Film Festival, please click here

This week, we are fortunate to have Jordan Hattar on campus. Jordan is the co-founder of Help4Refugees. He has worked independently with grade seven language arts students reading Linda Sue Park’s A Long Walk to Water. He has Zoom-ed with refugees from Turkey whom our students have spoken to, while learning about their stories of hardship and frustration. Having Jordan share what he is doing to help others, helps to build empathy in our students. Jordan reminds us all that one person can make a difference if you are passionate about it and believe in your efforts.

This is a reminder that the Talent Show is around the corner. When the tickets go on sale, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to purchase one. The event is usually sold out. This year’s event is on Thursday, February 8th.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. We are in the second week of semester two, and all is well.

This is a reminder that Semester One reports are posted today on Skyward. We encourage you to take time to sit with your child and go over their ATLs. You will find a correlation between ATLs and the Standard-Based Grades.

We are preparing to build next year’s master schedule in the upcoming weeks. We will meet with the current grade seven and six students to explain the selection of their electives for next year. This is a labor of love; building the schedule from scratch takes a lot of human resources. The elective courses we have such as 2050/DIT and The Future of Finance are courses no other school is currently offering to their students.

Food for thought: The world is not okay because institutions and the people who run them keep wanting to hold on to deeply outdated orientations to life on the planet that perpetuate the status quo and fail to deal with the root causes of our ills.

Learning will not happen when this amount of stress and anxiety is present and growing. And regardless of how our schools or our education system have or have not contributed to these ills, our conception of what school is and how it operates is no longer sustainable. The world has changed too much.

As good ancestors, in the Middle School and High School we are trying to be more forward thinking. We want to change education to make itself for the world that will be. It seems very likely that our students will always lag a bit behind the crest of the wave if we teach them what is.

In the 2050/DIT, and The Future of Finance classes, we try to aim at the world learners are likely to face as they leave CAC and enter college and then the workforce in some capacity. For example, in Disruptive Innovation and Technology (DIT) classes, we challenge students to imagine, not how they might address existing issues, but to anticipate issues yet to arise that they or even their children may face soon. Encourage your child to sign up for these electives.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. We are pleased to welcome you back after spending quality time with friends and families during the winter break.

We want to extend a special warm welcome to new families joining the CAC community. We are happy to have you here and look forward to building a partnership that will benefit you and your children during your time at CAC..

We began the week with a welcome-back assembly and a few reminders about how to approach the start of a New Year and a new semester. We believe that developing student’s social and emotional skills is at the forefront of what we do in the Middle School.

Next week we will post semester one report cards. A reminder that you will need your CAC email to access the reports. I encourage you to review the teacher’s feedback with your child.

Thank you to the PTO and Booster Club parent volunteers who helped us make the first-semester fun. We look forward to participating in all the fun activities you bring to campus.

As a school, we pride ourselves on our commitment to service learning, and our Grade 6 students stepped up this year through various initiatives to raise funds for the African Hope students. They showcased their creativity, perseverance, entrepreneurial spirit, and competitive streak (you have no idea!) through bake sales with roving sales units (even staying after school), a walkathon, and book donations. They also took part in assembling the gift bags and creating beautiful Christmas cards. We aimed to raise LE 52,000 and were hopeful of raising LE 70,000. The students surprised us, however, and managed to raise a jaw-dropping LE 174,000!!! We are very proud of their efforts and strong sense of compassion, which motivated them to ensure that each student at African Hope could have something substantive from us to bring them a sense of cheer before the end of the year. Here is a letter from African Hope sharing their appreciation for our students’ efforts. Well done, Grade 6!

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

On Monday, the grade 6 students embarked on an exciting field trip. First, they went to the Grand Egyptian Museum, immersing themselves in this ancient civilization’s rich history and culture. The museum showcased a diverse collection of artifacts, including statues, cartouches, and well-preserved artifacts that provided a window into the daily lives of the pharaohs and ancient Egyptians.

A knowledgeable museum guide engaged the students with captivating explanations, making the trip educational and entertaining. The highlight of the visit was the King Tutankhamun Immersive Exhibit,  where the students got to experience a sound and light show based loosely on the life of King Tut and the society he grew up in.

Throughout the morning, the students were encouraged to ask questions, fostering a sense of curiosity and engagement. The field trip deepened their understanding of Ancient Egypt and sparked an appreciation for history and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage.

Following the Grand Egyptian Museum, students spent the afternoon exploring their curiosities at the Egyptian Geology Museum. As a conclusion to their most recent science unit, Dynamic Earth, students were asked to complete a scavenger hunt to learn more about the rocks, minerals, and fossils discovered here in Egypt. Students were amazed to see such things as the fossilized remains of dinosaurs, ancient meteorites, and colorful gems.

In the spirit of CAC’s mission to learn, explore, and have fun, the Grade 6 students could connect their Social Studies and Science content to what they observed and experienced at both museums while having a wonderful time with their peers and teachers.

Kudos! To STUCO, Ms. Fides, and Ms. Torky, thank you for planning a fun winter social.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

News&Views, Week of December, 7th, 2023

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It has been a productive week filled with exciting events and important learning opportunities for our students as we approach the Winter Break.

Last Thursday, we had the lightning of the Festival of Trees; I want to express my gratitude to everyone who attended. It is truly unique to see so many people come together to celebrate. Our community spirit is something we should all be proud of.

In grade seven social studies class, our students engaged in a lively debate about the Amazon rainforest. I was impressed by their passion and critical thinking skills.

As a part of the Signature Program, we were honored to have three CEOs visit our campus this week. IBM, Visa, and Amazon representatives spoke to the Disruptive Innovation and Technology students and the Future of Finance class. There was an assembly titled Women In Leadership. It was aimed to inspire the girls and help them develop the confidence to become future themselves.

I want to congratulate Mr. McCuaig and the students for their wonderful Winter Music concert on Monday. The choir sang beautifully, followed by the beginning band, which has shown tremendous improvement since the start of the school year. The ensemble at the end with the choir, beginning, and concert band was entertaining.

I also want to recognize the fantastic efforts of our grade six advisory teachers and students for their efforts with the African Hope fundraiser. They not only met their target but tripled it. Thanks to their hard work, they are making a positive impact, ensuring that others have a great Christmas holiday season.

A special thank you goes to our PTO for organizing the Book Fair and Christmas Bazaar. Your dedication to promoting literacy is greatly appreciated.

Lastly, I want to remind everyone about tonight’s Winter Formal Social. It promises an evening of good, clean fun for the students.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

News&Views, Week of November, 30th, 2023

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a week of good teaching and learning with minimal activities.

Our students are busy preparing for debates and the end-of-semester summative assessments, which will take place in the upcoming weeks. We ask parents to remind their children to space out their studying and not leave it for the night before.

In the grade six, 2050 elective class in the wheel, students were learning about machine learning. They had the opportunity to understand how it can be designed to support whatever work they are doing.

The elective is a part of our Signature Program that spirals to grade 10.

In alignment with our Signature Program, we are having three CEOs on campus next week representing the following companies: IBM, Visa, and Amazon. The ladies will speak to students in the 2050 Disruptive Innovation and Technology and the Future of Finance class. There will also be an assembly titled Women In Leadership.

We want to congratulate the Booster Club parents who spent over ten hours setting up for the Festivals of Trees on Tuesday afternoon. You are invited to come onto campus this evening for the lighting of the trees at 5:00 pm. A mini-cafe on the MS Lawn will precede it. A donation box will also be available if you want to donate.

Next week, we will host the Winter Night of Music, showcasing our students in choir, band, and strings. The performances will be on Dec 4th, featuring Beginning Band, MS Concert Band, and MS Mixed Choir. On Dec 5th, it will be HS Band, String Ensemble, and HS Choir. The event will take place in the theater. The concert will begin at 5:30, and the doors will be open at 5:15 pm. If you want to bring a guest, please fill out the campus access form on the dashboard before the night of the performance.

Our Student elected representatives (STUCO) are planning the Winter Formal for next Thursday. Don’t be surprised if your child asks for a new dress or suit to look their best for the social.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

All Pro Dad – December Meeting
Hello everyone! The next CAC All Pro Dad meeting is scheduled for 7 December.
All Pro Dad is a monthly gathering where dads get to intentionally engage with their kids!

This of course is not just limited to dads, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.
There will be fun activities and a character-based curriculum that helps parents start meaningful conversations with their kids.

The next meeting is scheduled for 7 December at 7:00 am and we would love to see you there.

December’s topic is Peace. A person who’s at peace feels secure and stable, even in the middle of difficult circumstances. When we have peace inside us, whatever’s happening outside us—which we can’t control—is less likely to unsettle us.

It’s hard to believe but the winter celebration season is almost upon us! If you’re looking for some treats for yourself or gifts for others we have organized two events to simplify your shopping.

Overlapping on December 7th we will also have a bazaar with a wider variety of products.

As we rush headlong into the crowded calendar of the next few weeks, we are grateful for everything you do to be a part of the special community we have here. #loveCACPTO
