Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a week of solid teaching and learning.

Thank you for attending the parent-teacher conferences to learn from teachers about your child’s educational journey. Remember that we are only a third way through the school year. This is an excellent time to reflect, set goals, make plans, and adjust. If your child is doing well academically, encourage them to challenge themselves to participate in the co-curricular activities we offer after school. And if your child is struggling academically, take advantage of this stop-point and support/collaborate to put structures in place that foster growth. For students who need emotional support, don’t be afraid to contact Ms. Spencer and get some tips on how you can help your child.

On Tuesday night, Mr. Kasal and Ms. Tegenfeldt departed to the USA with ten middle school students who will participate in the World Scholars Cup. This is the final round of the competition, and it is being held at Yale University. Our students have been working hard to prepare for the event, and we wish them the very best. Go Eagles!

Last Thursday night, we had our Halloween social, and it was well attended. Here are some photos:

We welcomed Mr. Omar Allam from the class of 98 to speak to the 2050 and grades 6 -10 disruptive innovation and technology class, world views, and the future of finance. Omar reminded our students how important it was to make connections and live by our core values. The students learned about what disruptive technology countries were implementing to improve their citizen’s quality of life.

The All Pro Dad program runs monthly, and we encourage all dads to attend at least once. The moment and experience with your child can be life-changing. Here are a few photos:

Thank you for your continuous support of middle school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a week of recovery for trip leaders, teachers, and students.

The feedback from all the students I have spoken with has nothing but lovely things to share about the experience. The trip leaders, Mr. Kasal and Mr. Vogel for grade six, Mr. Miller and Mr. ElBably for grade seven, Ms. St-Amand and Mr. White for grade eight, and Ms. Shalaby had nothing but wonderful things to say about the student’s behavior and the overall experience of the trips. The memories will last forever, and the friendships will last a lifetime. We want to thank the parents for supporting the trips. It is an integral part of the student’s middle school experience.

A reminder that on October 31st and November 1st, we will have parent-teacher conferences on campus. The conferences will occur in the afternoon on the 31st from 2:15 – 5:30 p.m. The conferences on November 1st will be from 7:45 a.m. – 4:10 p.m. A letter was sent home inviting you to sign up for the conferences. I hope you took the time to sign up.

It is the week of Halloween, and students are preparing their costumes and getting ready for the Halloween social on Thursday. The Social will be from 6:00 – 8:00 in the MS hall. Students are not allowed to hang around on campus after the social ends. Please make arrangements for them to be picked up at 8:00 p.m.

Congratulations to the grade-six advisory teachers, Mr. Kasal, Ms. Spencer, Ms. Godfrey, (Ms. Sabry), Mr. Vogel, Ms. Harouny, and Ms. Deakin for winning the door decorating contest. Once again, we want to thank Mr. Staley for bringing something unique to the celebration.

The student government displayed its leadership and organized a 4×4 lawn volleyball tournament at lunchtime. The students have been taking this seriously and practicing when they are not competing.

Next week, we welcome Mr. Omar Allam from the class of 98. Omar will kick off our Speakers Series. Since leaving CAC, he has done the following:

  • Worked as a senior advisor with the World Bank
  • Worked as a senior Canadian trade diplomat
  • He appears regularly on Bloomberg and has been quoted and published in Forbes Magazine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Globe and Mail, and the Financial Times
  • Worked some of the world’s largest management consulting firms like BCG and McKinsey

Students in the Future of Finance, 2050, and the Disruptive Innovation and Technology classes will benefit from this experience.

Thank you for your continuous support of middle school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a busy week as our trip leaders and teachers communicated the final bit of information to parents and students about the PRIME trips and the Cairo-based trip next week.

The students have been looking forward to this moment since returning to campus in August. The trip leaders, Mr. Kasal and Mr. Vogel for grade six, Mr. Miller and Mr. ElBably for grade seven, Ms. St. Amand and Mr. White for grade eight, and Ms. Shalaby for the Cairo based have done a great job. Many extra hours go into making these trips the wonderful experience they are for our students. We want to thank the parents for supporting the trips and providing your child with memories that last a lifetime.

On October 31st and November 1st, we will have parent-teacher conferences on campus. The conferences will occur in the afternoon on the 31st from 2:15 – 5:30 p.m. The conferences on November 1st will be from 7:45 a.m. – 4:10 p.m. Please be on the lookout for the sign-up sheet sent out next week.

In grade six Science, the students are studying Thermal energy. They created their incubators and are seeing how hot it will get to melt the items inside.

Kudos! To all the grade seven parents who attended the coffee morning presentation. This is a reminder the topic is one that we all should be having with children at this age. Here is a link to the presentation.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It is a short week as we head off on a four-day weekend. We hope you find time to connect with family and friends and have fun.

We are a week away from PRIME Trips, and trip leaders have been communicating with you regarding the packing list and all the final details. If you haven’t filled out the Google form to pick up your child from the airport when they arrive, please don’t forget. Teachers will not give the child to any adult other than their parents.

This is a reminder that October will be busy for 20 boys and girls participating in the Pharaoh’s Cup hosted by CAC. I wish to thank the physical education teachers, Mr. White, Ms. Deakin, and Mr. Villafuerte, for their time and effort in selecting and coaching the athletes.

We would like to thank everyone who showed courage by trying out. The selection process was difficult since it didn’t align with our regular sports program. We want to point out that all CAC MS students qualify to play for their school team during the regular program schedule. We have a no-cut policy for volleyball, soccer, and basketball.

Thank you to Madame Istanbouli and her French students for the creativity they have shown in communicating the learning of the language.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views.

Today, we are posting our first set of Progress Reports focused on the Approaches To Learning. All students with a “Rarely” mark and all new students will also receive a comment. We hope you invest some time to review the progress report with your child, looking at their strengths and stretches. Ideally, this conversation culminates with personal goal setting.

On Tuesday, September 25th, thirty-seven student council members participated in a retreat to make their plans for the remainder of the school year. The retreat’s goal was to reflect on the work they wish to accomplish and to put it in perspective alongside a timeline.

Grade 6 Parent Tea: On Monday, September 25, Grade 6 parents were invited to a well-attended “Afternoon Tea” with Ms. Harouny (the Grade 6 team leader and learning support teacher) and Ms. Spencer (the MS counselor) after school. The session provided valuable strategies, recommendations, and resources on topics such as the school-to-home transition, organization, study skills, habits and routines, and issues related to the social and emotional well-being of the students. Here is a link to the presentation slides for parents who missed the meeting and would like to explore the resources presented.

The high school will host the college fair on Tuesday, October 10th. Once again, they will be inviting all 8th graders to join. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to start thinking about the possibilities and learn more about what colleges offer. Here is the list of colleges from Europe, Canada, and the United States.

The seventh-grade classes are inviting parents from our community to come and speak to their class about the following topics:

  • Map use within careers (public health, ecology, geology, etc.) — can be anywhere in the world.
  • Renewable/nonrenewable energy sources: In particular, they are hoping to find someone knowledgeable in the topics of solar, wind, green hydrogen, or other Egypt-specific renewable energy options; as well as oil and gas.
  • Climate change — Specifically looking for someone knowledgeable about the Sahel and climate changes that impact rural-urban migration in the Sahel.
  • Space — Looking for someone who might know about asteroid and moon mining, issues of outer space sovereignty, space treaties (how humanity should manage space geography, space mining, space junk, testing of weapons in space, etc.)
  • Population and Demography — looking for someone who can speak about how they use population data in their work, and hopefully someone who can give the kid’s problem/solution case studies connected to urban planning.
  • Child labor in e-mineral mining (DR Congo focus) — Looking for UNICEF or Save the Children employees.
  • Culture — business people who manage large numbers of international employees or whose business caters to different countries and how they consider culture in their decision-making, offerings, etc.

If you are interested, please contact Ms. Kremer (jkramer@cacegypt.org).

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

From The PTO
This week PTO held our second General Meeting. We were glad to see several community members. Participation in PTO events to this point has been wonderful
and we’re looking to maintain our momentum!
If you weren’t able to attend the meeting but want to stay informed, please find our detailed notes here.

We had another delicious bake sale on Tuesday afternoon. Please note that there will not be a bake sale next week due to the long weekend.

Halloween candy and non-candy donation boxes are positioned near the front gate and in the ES office. Have you seen them? The committees did such a beautiful job with them!

We understand that needing to come to campus to donate in support of the PTO is an obstacle to many of our community members. If an electronic method works better for you, please make note of these options we are now offering.

You can send funds to our Co-President Salma through Venmo or use the number 8328763386 to send via Zelle. For Egyptian accounts, you can send to our Head of Room Parents Rasha using her InstaPay @rashaak. Make sure to note whether funds are for a specific event or the PTO general fund.

We are grateful for your continued support!

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a busy week with MAP testing, Peace Day assembly, and an X-block taster.

The final day for the MAP testing will begin on Sunday, September 24th. We ask that your child get enough sleep the night before and bring a water bottle.

The Peace Day assembly was an excellent opportunity to practice the core values of creativity and perseverance. At the start of the assembly, the power went off. The Strings students were about to perform, so teachers gathered around with the flashlights on their phones so the performance could go on. The drama students also benefited from the flashlights of the teacher’s phone. We were fortunate that the power returned, and the assembly could continue with the high school and concert band supported by the choir to create a memorable one.

Thanks to the following parents, Dr. Malak Doss, Ms. Sham Al Zahabi, Ms. Kesha Davis, and Ms. Nouna Sawaf, who came in to offer a taster to our students as we prepare to launch our X-block session beginning next week.

One of our new courses this year is the math lab. The 6th-grade math lab is a course intended to understand, apply, and communicate mathematical concepts such as arithmetic operations with integers and fractions, order of operations, rates and percentages, measurement, and basic geometry. Students develop well-rounded mathematical thinking, effective problem-solving strategies, and math fluency through active learning and real-life applications. Activities such as budgeting, online numeracy practice games, explorations, building models, and mini-projects (such as designing a restaurant or investing a million dollars) make part of the fantastic journey that students experience on this exciting and enriching six-week course.

We invite all grade-six parents to an afternoon tea on Monday, September 25th, from 3:30 to 4:30. This will allow parents to learn more about middle school and what skills will help their child settle into grade six and navigate the school year seamlessly.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. I hope this message finds you well. It was a week filled with our students displaying the core value of courage.

Thanks to Ms. Torky, Ms. Fides, and Ms. Spencer for organizing the Student Council speeches and elections. We have never had so many candidates who wanted to represent their school. Each position had six candidates who gave inspiring speeches on Sunday and Monday. It was a first in many ways, with the executive council being all boys. It has never happened before; that all positions had a runoff in the end. We are proud of all candidates for showing courage and perseverance.

The winners are as follows:
President: Kamal Sika
Vice President: Kamal Nakhla
Treasurer: Amin Abou Ghaly
Secretary: Hussien El-Khazindar

In other news, we have the Welcome Back Social tonight from 5:00 pm – 7 00 pm.

Please mark your calendar, on Monday, September 18, from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm. The grade six team will be have an afternoon tea for all sixth-grade parents. I encourage you to attend to learn more about what we do in grade six to help students transition from elementary school.

Thank you to all the parents who were in attendance at the coffee morning on Wednesday. The turnout was remarkable and I want to express a special thank you to those returning parents who made a genuine effort to reach out and connect with our new parents. Your warm welcome and willingness to share your experiences and insights truly made a difference in helping our new families feel welcomed and supported. Your kindness and generosity embody the sense of community that we strive to foster at CAC.

Building strong connections between parents is not only beneficial for our new families, but it also strengthens our school community. When parents come together, share their experiences, and support one another, it creates a network. This collaboration between parents is invaluable and greatly contributes to the success and well-being of our students.

Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to middle school. We value your partnership and look forward to a successful academic year of growth and achievement.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. The Principal’s Perspective. I hope this message finds you well as we navigate the second week with Back To School Night.

I want to thank all parents who attended the Back To School Night. It was a pleasure to meet face-to-face and reconnect after a prolonged online period. The experience provided a valuable platform for you to witness the dedication and passion of our teachers, who will spend extensive hours each day guiding and nurturing your children’s educational journeys. Teaching is undoubtedly a challenging profession, particularly evident during the unprecedented circumstances brought about by the pandemic.

We hope you will partner with teachers to help your child navigate their middle school experience. The middle school years are pivotal to a child’s development. A positive partnership between families and schools improves children’s academic achievement, social competencies, and emotional well-being. Research has shown that this partnership will benefit the child immensely.

The season one of athletics and activities will start on Sunday, September 3rd. We ask that you help students prepare themselves the night before with everything they need to get off to a good start.

In other news, the seventh-grade social studies students recently engaged in a dynamic activity where they brought our core values to life. The level of enthusiasm and participation was inspiring.

Additionally, seventh-grade science students had the opportunity to explore the diverse plant life on our campus during a nature walk. It was an enriching experience that allowed them to deepen their understanding of the natural world.

Our studio art class has been busy creating beautiful and personalized greeting cards. It’s remarkable to witness the creativity and talent that our students possess.

Lastly, during lunchtime, our students actively engage in activities promoting exploration, learning, and fun during lunchtime. It was wonderful to witness the bonds being formed and the joy that radiates throughout our school community.

Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to middle school. We value your partnership and look forward to a successful academic year of growth and achievement.
