One quote that clearly explains Mildred’s problem is “Now, said Mildred, “my ‘family’ is people. They tell me things; I laugh, they laugh! And the colors!”. In this quote Mildred refers to the TV as her family which clearly shows how much Mildred cares about the TV and connects with it, as if she is talking about a human. In the modern day the society may not refer to their phone or TV as ‘family’, but they are heading that way.
