CAC High School Principal’s Notes
Thank you for reading this week’s edition of Highro-Glyphics.
University Fair
We are pleased to welcome over 110 universities to campus today. Thanks to our wonderful counseling team for putting together this amazing event!
Go Screaming Eagles!
Next week our CAC Boys’ Varsity Soccer team hosts the International School of Brussels, the American International School in Egypt, and Hayah International Academy for what should be an exciting tournament! Games are at CAC and Victory College.
Our Volleyball teams are also in action this weekend. A schedule of upcoming CAC athletic events is below, at the end of the Principal’s notes.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Thank you to everyone who participated in Parent-Teacher (and Student) Conferences on Monday and Tuesday. We hope these conversations will help you continue to work in partnership with teachers to guide your student in his or her learning.
41st Annual CACMUN
Last week 300 students from 14 schools participated in our annual Model UN Conference. For three days students intensely researched, proposed, and debated solutions to myriad global issues. This year’s conference had a particular focus on sustainability. Thanks to the hard work of student officers, delegates, teachers, and staff, the conference was a huge success. MUN continues to be a powerful model for CAC students to practice leadership and global citizenship
Early Release Day – October 28
All students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 28 for a staff and faculty professional half-day.
Communications Survey
The Advancement Office is asking parents to fill out a short survey about how communication is retrieved or received from CAC. Please help us gather this important information by filling out the 5min survey here. The survey will close October 30.
Skyward Gradebook
The gradebook section of Family Access on Skyward allows students and parents to view student progress each fortnight. Teachers are available to speak to students face-to-face about progress and academic performance. Below are the dates the Skyward gradebook will be open for the rest of the semester:
Nov. 7
Nov. 21
Dec. 5
Season 2 Athletic and Activity Eligibility
Current grades as of November 7 will be used to determine athletic and activity eligibility for season 2. We will also run a second eligibility check for season 2 based on final first semester grades.
First Semester Final Exams – Travel Plans Near Christmas
Semester 1 final exams begin on December 15 and continue to December 18. Please do not make travel plans that depart before final exams are finished.
Bikes, Skates, and Scooters
An important reminder to ensure safety on campus: biking, skating, and any other activity involving wheels is not allowed in CAC hallways or corridors. The pillars in the hallways have edges that could cause severe injury if struck at speed on a wheeled vehicle.
Spook-tacular Donations!
Did you know 80% of the revenues from the Halloween Carnival benefit High School activities? Please help out by bringing items (candy, treats, decor, pens, pencils, etc.) to the Spirit Store or collection bin outside the ES Office.

Open Call for StoryFest Participants
On December 10-12, CAC will inaugurate StoryFest, a celebration of storytelling and stories in all their myriad forms. Our community will welcome professional storytellers, authors, photographers, musicians, and more to share a variety of performances and workshops with students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni over three afternoons.
Recognizing that our community is full of diversity and talent, StoryFest invites you to participate in a number of ways beyond simply attending the event:
● Perform or lead a workshop in any mode of storytelling you can imagine (music, spoken-word, drama, visual, etc.), in whatever language you speak.
● Read a story or poem at the StorySLAM or PoetrySLAM events.
● Participate in the Flash Fiction contest.
● Record a reminiscence about CAC in the sound booth. Stories are being collected for CAC’s upcoming 75th anniversary!
We aspire for this event to involve a diversity of voices, reflecting our community’s internationalism. If you are interested in any of the above, please contact Noah Balazs at nbalazs@cacegypt.org.

Dear Parents,
You are invited to the Grade 11 IB Presentation on Monday 28th October at 18.30 in MS 116. The event will last approximately one hour. During this session we will be discussing the Calendar of Assessments, exam registration, the calendar of assessments, predicted grades and various other issues that pertain to the year ahead. I look forward to seeing you there.

Parents of 12th Graders:
Many seniors are getting prepared to submit their first round of college applications (and some done so already)! It is an exhilarating time but it can also be stressful. The counselors are in touch with the seniors frequently as the students have us review their materials prior to submission. Thanks for your continued support as your student applies and then must wait patiently for the universities to respond.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the university fair a success today! We hope that students and community members were able to connect with college representatives in meaningful ways and we look forward to having more university representatives on campus in the upcoming weeks!

Some patrons have reported problems getting to the sign up page. Please stop by the MHS library to let us know if you are having that problem.

Girl Scouts Leaders Wanted
There are four ninth graders who would like to continue their Girl Scouts careers. We need leaders to guide them. Please consider volunteering to lead this troop for the year. Girl Scouts at this level can lead their own meetings and projects, but they will need a liaison with the Cairo Council of leaders and with the USAGSO organization. Please email Sara Torosian, cairogirlscouts@usagso.org, if you would be interested in leading these girls. It’s an extremely rewarding experience; you will not regret it!
