Go Screaming Eagles!
Good luck to our basketball players and swimmers who will travel next week to The Netherlands to compete at the British School of the Netherlands. Safe travels also to our Dance Team, who will participate in MOVE IT in the UK.
Skyward Openings
The gradebook section of Family Access on Skyward will be open until Sunday morning (March 8) so students can check on assignments before progress reports are issued March 9. Students are encouraged to speak with their teachers face-to-face about progress and academic performance.
Upcoming Progress Report and Athletic Eligibility Determination
Mid-semester narrative progress reports will be available on March 9 at 4:00 pm. Please be aware that this progress report represents the grades to date at the half-way mark of the semester. All students will be provided with narrative feedback on this progress report, which we hope you as parents find helpful. This progress report is used to determine athletic/activity eligibility and academic probation. It is very important that any students with outstanding work have submitted it well before the progress report is posted. Once the grades are posted they will not be adjusted, and students who find themselves ineligible will be unable to participate in Season 3 sports and activities.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
The High School Parent-Teacher Conference Days are an excellent opportunity to visit campus and meet with teachers to discuss your student’s academic progress. Conferences will take place on Tuesday, March 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, March 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. As noted above, mid-semester progress reports will be posted on Monday, March 9.
On March 10, conferences will be “arena style” in the High School Gym. No appointments are needed and conferences are limited to quick “check ins” that do not require confidentiality. On March 11, conferences will be in teachers’ classrooms. Appointments will be made in fifteen-minute intervals. For both types of conferences, students are encouraged to attend with parents.
Please note that MS/HS cross-over teachers will ONLY be available at the drop-in conferences on Tuesday, March 10. Cross-over teachers are Mr. Alexander Dzamashvili, Mr. Ian McCuaig, and Mr. Mick Barens.
There will be no school for High School students on Wednesday, March 11.
If a teacher’s schedule is fully booked for Wednesday’s conferences, kindly email that teacher directly to schedule a conference at another time and date. Also, if you won’t be available on the parent-teacher conference day, but want to visit specific teachers, please contact each teacher directly. Parent signup for Wednesday’s conferences continue via Skyward until March 9, closing at 3:00 p.m. Instructions for the signup were sent by email last week and can also be found here.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Eman Hamza in the High School Office at ehamza@cacegypt.org or 2755-5403.

Author, Eden Unger Bowditch, visited CAC this week. Ms. Bowditch wrote the Young Inventors Guild trilogy. The books follow the adventures of five young inventors, offspring of the world’s most famous scientists, after they are kidnapped. All sorts of fun antics ensue, and the children use their genius science skills to solve problems. Ms. Bowditch worked with the MS design technology students and X-block students on projects inspired by the trilogy, like catapults and balistas.
Ms. Bowditch also presented two writing workshops for the HS students, where she gave valuable tips about the do’s and dont’s of writing college essays. She is a professor of critical and creative writing at AUC and at LIU in New York, so her tips were very valuable indeed.
New additions to our digital book and audio collection
We have lots of new titles in ebook or digital audio format available through the Sora app. Titles range from romance novels to mysteries, parenting books and professional reading for educators. There’s a book for every taste.
Here is a quick video tutorial for using Sora and here it is as a pdf. Just note that when you are asked for your Follett account the first time you access Sora, that just means your CAC Single Sign On. If you need help, please stop by the library. Mrs. Fitzgerald is always happy to introduce you to the delights of e-reading. Don’t forget, listening to an audiobook also counts as reading.
