CAC High School Principal’s Notes

Dear parents,

It’s hard to believe that we have arrived at this final week of the 2021 year which marks 17 completed weeks of school. It certainly has been a busy time here in the high school with all the activities and projects running alongside the regular day-to-day teaching and learning. With our move into the new building almost complete (just art and design remaining), it will feel like a new start in January as we fully occupy the space and begin to make it feel like “home”. Already, students are discovering their favorite hangout spots and when we open the third floor, they will have even more options for quiet study, socializing, eating and collaborating. We are also looking forward to bringing some Harkness tables back in the very near future too.

The end of the semester is always a busy time in any school and we have been enjoying concerts, bake sales, hot chocolate stands, book sales, exhibitions and next week, of course, exams–perhaps not quite so enjoyable but still an important and rewarding part of the school experience.

Dates for your Diary
• 12-15 Dec: Semester 1 Exams
• 16 Dec: Last Day, Semester 1
• 16 Dec: Individual Office Hours and Exam Make-ups
• 17 Dec: Winter Break Begins
• Sun 9 Jan: School resumes
• 18 Jan: Semester 1 report issued

Yours in partnership and learning,

Counseling Department Announcements

Week of Dec. 9, 2021

Healthy Snacks for exams and Calming Room!

Starting Sunday, the HS Counseling Office will host a healthy snack table and a calming room with soothing music before semester exams. Students are welcome to come by to get some nourishment and encouragement, any time before or after their exams.

Seniors

Seniors are kindly reminded to check their college application portals/emails and SPAM folders AT LEAST every two weeks so they continue to check the status of their application – this ensures they do not miss a notification with action items such as additional documents or important information. Students should check this weekend and let counselors know ASAP if there are any questions or concerns before we go on break. As a reminder, universities may be going on a break as well.

PSAT Scores

PSAT score results were released by the College Board earlier this week. Most 10th and 11th Grade students took this exam at CAC on October 13th. Once the scores are released, students can access them through the College Board website: studentscores.collegeboard.org. Students are able to create an account with the College Board in order to access the scores. Students should use the same email they placed on the PSAT answer sheet. This video shows the process of creating an account and accessing scores. So what do the scores actually mean? This video will explain the results.

If your student has any questions regarding the PSAT, please contact Mr. Simon at csimon@cacegypt.org.

List of Upcoming University Visits

The counselors receive quite a few invitations to attend online events that universities are hosting. We don’t announce all of these, but we keep track of them on the HS Counseling Resources Website. Explore this page to see the dozens of upcoming events you could attend from universities around the world.
