Grade 9 Seminar – Transition to high school

Back to School Night (BTSN)

We were so happy and excited to see so many parents in attendance at last night’s BTSN event. While we did not take attendance formally, it seemed that around 75% of our parent community attended. We hope that the event was informative and interesting and will welcome any feedback you have to share. Please complete this quick survey to share your thoughts.

Parent Coffees

It was wonderful to welcome many parents to the first Parent Coffee of the year this week. We gave a general overview of the big picture of learning at CAC and the importance of parent partnership, emphasizing ways that parents can be engaged and involved in their child’s high school experience. We also introduced our new homeroom program and shared some of the educational research behind the program, as well as how it links to the school’s strategic goals. The slides from this meeting can be accessed here.

We will continue to host these events on a regular basis and look forward to welcoming parents to join us. The next session is for parents new to CAC this year (Wed 7 Sept, 9:30) and the following week, a session for all Grade 9 parents (Tue 13 Sept, 9:00 a.m.).

Plastic Bottles Be Gone!

Green Team reminds us about plastic waste

As you may be aware, our Green team has spearheaded a campaign to reduce the amount of single use plastic on our campus. Their display of plastic bottles on the MS lawn this week was a striking reminder of how easy it is to build up a huge amount of waste in a short period of time. Everyone can do their bit by ensuring that students have a refillable water bottle and use the fresh, filtered water available for free on campus. In addition, please talk to your child and encourage them to avoid buying bottles of water outside and bringing them to school.

Skyward Gradebook

The grade book section of Family Access is now open and allows students and parents to view student progress and grades. While teachers do regularly update the gradebook, this early in the semester, some courses might not have assignments posted yet. Teachers are always available to speak to students about progress and academic performance and we encourage a healthy attitude towards monitoring grades with regular, but not overly frequent grades checks in Skyward. The grade book will remain open until the end of this quarter when the first progress report will be published.
