We were extremely proud and feeling very grateful to be able to send many of our student athletes off to Europe to represent CAC in a sports tournament this weekend. In addition to this, our Green Team is currently in Sharm El Sheikh representing CAC at the COP27 event. As you can see from the happy faces in the photos, everyone is super excited about the prospect of these opportunities and I will share more information about their successes and experiences next week. The pandemic stripped away many of the opportunities that CAC students have benefited from over the years and it’s fantastic to see some of these coming back now. A balanced and holistic educational program relies on these types of extracurricular activities and we know for sure that lifelong memories and life changing experiences happen in this way. Many of our students and families will be feeling excited about their Week Without Walls selections this week and we were thrilled to be able to meet the requests of the vast majority of our students. However, as you are likely aware, there was a smaller group of students who, unfortunately, we were unable to place in any of their choices. This is a very upsetting and unintended situation and through the course of this week we have been working hard to rectify the situation. At this point in time, we’ve been able to expand some of our international trips and we are now working to place students from the waitlist onto trips of their preference. It is our hope that by the middle of next week we will be able to confirm travel arrangements for every student in the high school who wishes to travel. This boom of interest in international travel is a good indication that families are feeling more comfortable with the circumstances regarding the pandemic and as we move forward into the 23-24 year at CAC, we look forward to expanding our international trip offerings even further to provide a wider selection of choices and variety of experiences to cater for all.

I would like to thank those parents who took the time and trouble to reach out and contact us directly via email, telephone, or in meetings to ask questions or share perspectives and viewpoints about the Week Without Walls process. As always, we value open, transparent, and honest communication with our parent community. In addition, we always welcome feedback about our processes and decisions. Open, productive and direct communication is in line with our core values and always highly appreciated. I would urge any family that has feedback or questions on any school related topic to always feel welcome to bring those directly to my or any other member of the CAC faculty’s attention. We are here to listen and help address your concerns.

MAP test results for our grade 9 students who took MAP tests in reading and mathematics last month are now available for families to access on Skyward. When you log in, go to “Portfolio” and look for “Map Test Fall 2022” and click to download. If there is sufficient interest, we will offer a short parent session (and / or video tutorial) to go through how you can read and understand MAP test results. MAP testing for grade 9 will take place again in the spring at which time you will be able to track your child’s growth in reading and mathematics over the course of the academic year.

Counseling Department Announcements

Week of November 10, 2022

Seniors

Upcoming Applications: Students should continue working on applications for the later USA EA & RD submissions, The Netherlands, UC’s, and UCAS. Students should continue to meet with their counselor to go over any motivational letters, CV’s and essays so you can stay on track for the upcoming Internal Deadlines this month.

Students should continue to check application portals on a regular schedule after an application is submitted, to see if there are any additional requirements or SRAR (Self-Reported Academic Record) forms to fill out.

Document Request Forms: Seniors submitting applications must be sure to submit a Document Request Form (DRF) to the counseling office. This form ensures we know exactly what documents are needed to send to each of the different institutions being applied to. Please be aware of looming deadlines such as November 30 for UC Applications.

Application Drop-In Seniors are able to drop in for help with their college applications! Students on Flex are encouraged to stop by if they have a question, want feedback on an essay, or want a quiet space to work on their application. (details here)

Juniors

Grade 11 students met with counselors for a career workshop where students took The Holland Code assessment through MAIA Learning software platform. The Holland Code is a system to classify jobs into job categories, interest clusters, or work personality environments. Students researched possible career pathways and wrote a reflection about their inclinations towards certain careers based on their strengths and interests. We will revisit this information in the spring when we kick off the college search timeline with Junior College Night and the PSAT debrief.

Grade 6 Annual Fundraiser
Bake Sale & Books!
Wednesday, November 16 – Tuesday, November 29

Since Christmas is just around the corner, the 6th graders are putting together their annual gift bags for the students at African Hope Learning Center. Please come visit our Bake Sale booths in the MS during lunch on the 16th, 21st, and 29th to purchase delicious treats. All funds will be used to purchase gifts for the African Hope students, including essential items.

This year, we want to add a book too. Please donate books in good condition for kids ranging from kindergarten up to eighth grade. The red donation box is located at the front gate entrance. We really want to make these children feel appreciated this Christmas and a book is a perfect way to do that. To know more about African Hope Learning Center, please visit their website.
