Highro Glyphics Newsletter Week of May 16, 2024

CAC High School Principal’s Notes

If you have visited campus in the last week, I think you will agree with me when I say it is looking truly beautiful. The flamboyant trees are in full bloom, and the flash of red flowers across the tops of the trees is an annual sign that the end of the year is now very close.

Students enjoying the outside spaces

Last weekend, our student council organized a trivia quiz evening as a fundraiser. Parents, students, and faculty gathered to compete against each other to answer fun general knowledge questions. Our student council has been proactive throughout the year in hosting fundraising events, and the culmination of their efforts takes place this weekend with the prom event, a highly anticipated and always exciting school occasion. Thank you to STUCO and our faculty advisors for their support and assistance throughout this year.

Track and Field Meet

Also last weekend, we hosted a fantastic track and field event at the American International School of Egypt in Cairo. CAC athletes were dominant throughout the day, competing in the manner to which we’ve become accustomed. Runners, jumpers, throwers, and hurdlers stunned the crowd with their commitment and skill. Many personal bests and new school records were set during this occasion. Well done to the track and field team, and thank you to the coaches for their support throughout this season.

Softball team in Warsaw

Our softball team is in Poland this weekend to represent CAC at an international tournament. We wish them the very best of luck and are proud of their achievements so far. Go Eagles!

IB exams are nearly over!

Two weeks to go!

University Acceptances for Seniors

Looking ahead, this weekend we are hosting a CAC speech and debate tournament. Next week, of course, is the last week of formal lessons for our seniors before their end-of-semester exams. Tomorrow is a huge day for our IB students, as it is the final day of IB examinations and they may look forward to some well-earned rest and relaxation in the coming weeks. With graduation now very much on the horizon, our seniors have their eyes set on this momentous occasion.

WWW 2024 is Now Live!

I know it feels strange to plan ahead for October 2024. For those students returning to CAC High School in the fall, this weekend marks the time families meet to talk about WWW courses, and decide which courses they would like to request. Parents are responsible for placing the requests in Skyward on behalf of their children, due to the unique nature of the program. Please refer to Ms. McCall’s emails sent Wednesday (introduction) and Thursday (instructions for completing the form). Deadline is approaching rapidly, Monday, May 20th, 11:00 pm. If you need any technical assistance, please refer to Thursday’s email for more details. Once students are enrolled in a class, families will receive confirmation, and necessary documents / deposits for international travel will be due June 2nd.

Counseling Department Announcements

Week of May 16, 2024

Studying for Semester Exams

We’ve collected and posted a selection of essential resources designed to help students master time management, prioritize tasks, and maintain focus and motivation. Students can find these tools in their Google Classroom, including a comprehensive Study Planner Pack, effective retrieval practice techniques, and practical spaced practice strategies.

Seniors!

On Sunday, May 19, Seniors will receive pink checkout forms to start the process of gathering signatures for completing end-of-year tasks. To obtain a signature from the counseling department, students must complete two requirements: first, fill out the Google Form indicating their college matriculation plans and where they wish their final transcript sent (check the email from Mr. Semler); second, ensure their Maia Learning profiles are updated with accurate information regarding their college application decisions.

Teacher Letters of Recommendation: Most students will require one or more academic recommendations for university applications. Juniors have already received instructions and guidelines on how to request these letters. This should have been done by Thursday, May 16. For further details, students should refer to Mr. Semler’s email or the instructions posted on Google Classroom.

There is one more ACT date for the 23-24 academic year. However, the test at CAC is full.

Support ‘NetworkforPalestine’

NetworkforPalestine is a small group of volunteers to support the families and individuals who fled Gaza, helping them find safety, stability, and peace while in Cairo.
It aims to provide them with the support and resources to rebuild their lives. Let’s come forward with assorted hygiene kits, baby necessities, lightly used toys, clothes, and kitchen stuff to make their lives easier. Drop your donations in the red box at CAC’s front gate (April 28th – May 19th). Every contribution, big or small, is highly valued. Thank you for being a part of this process.

If you want more information on the donation drive, check the poster.

Hope Run Update

A huge thank you to all who supported the Hope Run event on February 23rd at the Wadi Degla. We had an amazing turn out of more than 150 runners, of all ages, making it a really memorable community event, while raising funds for the Health and Hope Oasis organization in Cairo. A grand total of EGP 115,415.12 (USD $2,406.93) was raised and donated towards the building of a running track at their center as part of the rehabilitation of the children they support who are recovering from cancer treatments.

We’d also like to give a shout out once again to our sponsors: Gold’s Gym, CAC’s Booster Club, Halo, OWN, Fyngan, Lamar, Green Cola and the Sally Mussetter Grant for their generosity and support making the event such a success.

If you would like to offer further support to the Hope and Health Oasis, please reach out to hoperun20@gmail.com

From the Booster Club

The CAC Booster Club NEEDS YOU!!! The Booster Club is a volunteer organization on campus that runs on parent power. We raise money through the Spirit Store and Spirit Cafe to support the sports and activities that happen at CAC at all age levels. If you would like to become more involved in fundraising and socializing on campus, then we have the perfect opportunities! We are in need of people to take some positions that will become vacant during the next school year. The positions that are available are:

President: organize meetings, recruit volunteers and help with events
Vice President: support the president and help with events
Store Rep: help manage the Spirit Store and its volunteers
Treasurer (in training): gradually take over managing the Booster Club’s finances

Please reach out to us at boosterclub@cac.org for any more information about these positions or to ask any questions that you might have. Executive elections will take place at the final Booster Club meeting on May 20th in the Spirit Store at 10am. The Booster Club and CAC will thank you for your volunteerism!
