CAC High School Principal’s Notes

Today’s IB Math Exam

The final week of school before exams is always tough for students. Preparation for exams has to be balanced with completing final tasks and wrapping up the courses. It’s great to see our students approaching this time with dedication and maturity, working hard to study and focusing on their final lessons before the exams begin next week.

The semester two exams will give our students a chance to showcase what they’ve learned this semester. While exams are important, they are just one way we assess students at CAC. Throughout the semester, students have completed many varied tasks and assessments that show their knowledge and skills in different ways. Teachers use all this information to calculate the final semester two grades, with the semester exam added at the end for a complete picture. If you have any questions or concerns, it’s never too late to talk to your child’s teacher about how to support their learning.

Please check my previous newsletters for tips on helping your child study effectively and keeping an eye on their health and well-being during this potentially challenging and stressful time.

High School Recognition Night and Awards

I am happy to announce that we will host our high school Recognition Night on Sunday 18th May at 6 p.m. in the theater. During this event, students who have been selected for important awards will be honored. The Recognition Night is a chance to celebrate our seniors and other students who have truly excelled in different areas of school life— academics, arts, activities, service and character are all acknowledged and celebrated through the high school awards.

This year, we have made some changes to our award events. On Sunday, during the school day, each grade level will have a special Awards Assembly where students nominated for Subject Area Awards will receive their certificates. Presenting awards in this way allows everyone in the grade to celebrate each others’ success and learn what it takes to demonstrate a sustained commitment to learning. Subject Area Awards are presented to students who demonstrate all or some of these attributes throughout the year of learning in that course:
• Strong academic performance
• Noteworthy effort
• A positive attitude and meaningful contributions to the course
• Passion for the subject
• Creative and critical thinking
• A collaborative and supportive approach
• A commitment to our CAC Core Values

In these assemblies, we will also be recognising the “Top 10 Scholars” in each grade level. These 10 students, through their sustained commitment to hard work, have reached the highest GPAs in the grade.

While not everyone can expect to receive an award at the end of the year, everyone certainly can join in the recognition and celebration. If you would like to join us at the High School Recognition Night to celebrate these hardworking students, you are welcome to come to the theater at 6 p.m. on Sunday 18 May.

From the MS/HS Library

Dear High School Students, Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to remind you that all library and HS materials, including English books, are due back by Sunday, May 18th. HS Textbooks are due back by May 29th so students can use them to study for exams.

All books should be returned to the MHS Library and not directly to teachers.

If your child has overdue materials, you will have been receiving weekly email notices listing the specific items that need to be returned. As the deadline approaches, these notices will become daily reminders. Please review these emails carefully—they include a full list of any outstanding items.

If any books have been lost, please contact the librarians directly to request an invoice. You will then take the invoice to the CAC cashier, make the payment, and return the stamped receipt to the library as proof of payment. Only once we have received this receipt will your child’s account be cleared.

Please note that if materials are not returned or paid for by May 29th, your Skyward account will be blocked. This means:

• You will not be able to access your child’s report card at the end of the school year.
• If the account remains blocked into the summer, you will not be able to access student schedules at the start of the next school year.

We strongly encourage you to take action now to avoid any disruption. If you have questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us by email.

Thank you for your cooperation and support!

Warm regards,

Meghan Ennis
