Highro Glyphics Newsletter Week of December 19, 2019

Welcome to final Highro-Glyphics of the semester

Happy Holidays

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season. Whether staying in Egypt or traveling abroad, be safe and enjoy spending time with family and friends. School resumes on January 12th, 2020 with an assembly in the theater.

Report Cards Online

Semester report cards will be available on SKYWARD at 4:00pm on January 16th. SKYWARD access is closed during the coming weeks as grades are updated, and as we want students to enjoy a restful holiday break, rather than spending time looking at grade averages.

Registration, Second Semester Exams, and Graduation

Course Registration – Course registration for the 2020-2021 academic year will start in February.

Second semester exam dates are June 1-2 for seniors and June 3-8 for grades 9-11. Please keep in mind while you plan your summer travels that seniors are able to depart after graduation and underclassmen after their final examination.

Graduation – A memo will be circulated to all parents of seniors in early March outlining the events leading up to graduation. As we know that some extended family members plan to come to Cairo please note that this year’s Graduation Ceremony is on Friday, June 5.

Counseling Department Announcements

Seniors:

Reminder- CAC is closed from Dec. 19th to January 11th. No document request forms will be processed during that time. The UCAS Deadline is January 15th, 2020.

Juniors:

ACT registration deadline: The upcoming deadline to register for the February ACT test held here on campus is January 17th.

The test date is Saturday, February 8th and the registration deadline is January 17th. The reason we are emailing you now is that since CAC is an “open” test center, in order to reserve your spot, you must register early. The test site may fill up with other students, and we can’t hold seats open for CAC students. The room has a capacity of 30 seats and registration is open now.

So, plan ahead if you will apply for university to a country system (like the US) that requires a standardized test. There will also be an ACT on April 4th and June 13th, plus an SAT on March 14th and May 2nd.

CAC’s ACT center code is 866070.

Our school code is 648-300.

See your counselor if you have questions.

Thanks,

Claudia Bean, Stephanie Barker, Cameron Simon

General Announcements

We wish you merry reading!

The CAC Libraries wish you a vacation full of reading and books, wherever your travels take you.

Remember that we have ebooks and digital audiobooks available through the Sora app, which you can find on all the app stores. You will be asked for a “Follett account” when you first log in. That’s just your CAC single sign on. There are lots of great fiction and nonfiction titles available. Use the preferences menu to tailor the experience to your tastes and reading interests.

Thank you, Mervat!

We will bid farewell to Mervat Thabet, who has been a library assistant at CAC for 34 years. Ms. Thabet has been a backbone of our library program and is a font of knowledge about the technical aspects of our libraries. She will be sorely missed. Happily, we will be able to bring her back for special projects that require her expertise, so she’s still a part of our CAC community.

New MHS Library Hours

With Ms. Thabet’s retirement, we will have to adjust our openings hours. The MHS library will be open from 7:45 to 4 pm Sundays to Thursdays, starting on January 19. Saturday openings will remain the same, from 10 to 2, on most Saturdays, starting January 18.

HS Play Auditions

Auditions for the HS play, The Curious Savage, will take place after school Jan. 13th and 15th with callbacks likely on the 16th. The auditions are open and encouraged for all HS students, no experience necessary. The play is a fun show that will require a true ensemble to do well. We will be looking for a team of actors and production crew that can work well together, support each other, and have fun. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Lazar at rlazar@cacegypt.org.

Girls Get Strong

CAC will host its 5th Girls Get Strong conference on Saturday, February 15th. This year’s theme is Girls Get Strong: It’s Within You! Ms. Riddle and a group of student leaders are working hard to assemble an amazing group of community members to lead workshops and fitness activities, provide financial support, or to show their general support for our female students. If you are interested in supporting this year’s event, please contact Ms. Riddle at rriddle@cacegypt.org.
