It was a busy week for both students and parents. It was wonderful to see the great turnouts for the Grade 10 IB Information Evening and Junior College Night. We hope these sessions provided you with valuable information.

Course Registration

Course registration for the 2020-21 academic year began this week with grade 9-11 class assemblies. Parents are encouraged to contact our counselors, IB coordinator, and learning support specialist with any specific questions.

Wrestling Invitational

Our wrestlers are competing this weekend in an international invitational tournament in Chennai, India. Go Screaming Eagles!

Grade 8/9 IB Information Evening

The Grade 8/9 IB Parent Presentation will take place Monday, February 10 from 6:30-7:30pm in MS 116. While students in grades 8 and 9 do not yet need to decide upon their course of study for grades 11 and 12, this session will give you an overview of what learning in the IB Diploma Programme might look like for them. Topics discussed during the session will include the philosophy of the IB, the structure of the full Diploma Program, subject choices and implications for college admissions.

Pre-ACT Wednesday

The Pre-ACT exam has been rescheduled for February 12 and is for all students in grade 10. The students received an email this week explaining procedures for the exam.

Skyward Opening Dates

The gradebook section of Family Access on Skyward will be open today through Sunday for student and parent viewing. Skyward will open again on February 20.

PTO Gala

Don’t forget to purchase your tickets for the PTO Gala to be held on Valentine’s Day (February 14). It’s never too late to learn tango!

Positive Education Presentation, February 18

Dr. Ron Lalonde will be presenting to parents on Tuesday, February 18th, at 8:00am in room MS116. Dr. Lalonde is the Regional Manager of the Institute of Positive Education, and the founder of Riverspath Coaching and Consulting (riverspath.com). Evidence-based Positive Education programs are playing a crucial role in teaching the skills of wellbeing and promoting positive health for students. We hope you can attend and find out more about Positive Education at CAC.

Early Release Day, February 18

Please note that Tuesday, February 18 is an Early Release Day so that teachers can participate in professional development activities. High School classes will end at 11:30.

Second Semester Exams, and Graduation

Second semester exam dates are June 1-2 for seniors and June 3-8 for grades 9-11. Please keep in mind while you plan your summer travels that seniors are able to depart after graduation and underclassmen after their final examination. Please note that no exams will be given early.

Graduation – A memo will be circulated to all parents of seniors in early March outlining the events leading up to graduation. As we know that some extended family members plan to come to Cairo please note that this year’s Graduation Ceremony is on Friday, June 5.

Course Registration

Current grades 9 & 11 students: completed course registration cards are due to the HS counseling office by 11 February.

11th Grade College Planning Meetings

Thank you for attending Junior College Night this week! Juniors, please schedule your college planning meetings with your parents and your counselor in the next few weeks. Meetings should take place before April 30th.

10th Grade Course Planning Meetings

Sophomores, please schedule your course planning meetings, to include your parents and your counselor, as soon as possible. The course registration cards are due March 10th.

Financial Aid

To apply for travel assistance, please complete all questions in the Google form below. The decisions of the committee are final and will be communicated to the requesting family only.

Financial aid applications will be reviewed for winter sports- wrestling, dance, ISAA trips (girls and boys basketball, girls and boys swimming) and activities trips- THIMUN, AMIS MS Honor Choir, AMIS HS Honor Choir and MS Math Counts.

Please submit applications for travel assistance for all CAC season 2 sports and activities by Thursday, February 20, 2020.

Booster Club Art Contest

The Booster Club’s annual Art Contest is up and running! The theme this year will be: “Caring for our Planet”. If you would like to participate for a cash prize and to have your artwork possibly featured in an amazing new Spirit Store product please come to the Spirit Store any time during opening hours to get your application form, including instructions for the contest. The contest is open to all ages, as well as parents and alumni, so we hope to see lots of CAC artists apply. Good luck and have fun creating art!

Girls Get Strong

CAC will host its 5th Girls Get Strong conference on Saturday, February 15th. This year’s theme is Girls Get Strong: It’s Within You! Ms. Riddle and a group of student leaders are working hard to assemble an amazing group of community members to lead workshops and fitness activities, provide financial support, or to show their general support for our female students. The World Needs A Father 
“The World Needs A Father” event is taking place on Saturday, February 8th. The day will be organized in the following manner:

Time                              Event Mission
9:00 – 11:00 am           Father-and-child bonding
11:10 am – 12:10 pm    Parenting tips – Mother and Father
12:10 – 3:00 pm           Principal and Father Forum

Note: Participation will be restricted to the pre-registered participants. There will be no on-door registration.

All participants will be asked to contribute 100 LE (per adult) to cover the cost of the snacks for the day. Payments should be placed at the MS Office. There will be organized activities for the child between 11:10 -12:10. Following the Parenting tips session, the child and mother can leave.

The World Needs A Father – Call-for-Volunteers
Looking for 10 volunteers who can be available on Saturday, February 8 from 7:00am to 11:00am. The volunteer’s role is to supervise event’s activities and keep their scores.

This is your opportunity to be part of Tango beginners course with Khaled Nassar.
Come learn and unleash your passion for this elegant and classy Argentinean dance.
You will learn the basics and fundamental techniques needed to put you on the first step to master this beautiful dance.

When: every Sunday until the Gala from 6:15 PM to 8.15 PM
Where: at CAC, MS Auditorium.
Cost: LE 800 total course. Per couple LE 1500.
