Positive Education Presentation, February 18

Dr. Ron Lalonde will be presenting to parents on Tuesday, February 18th, at 8:00am in room MS116. Dr. Lalonde is the Regional Manager of the Institute of Positive Education, and the founder of Riverspath Coaching and Consulting (riverspath.com). Evidence-based Positive Education programs are playing a crucial role in teaching the skills of wellbeing and promoting positive health for students. We hope you can attend and find out more about Positive Education at CAC.

Early Release Day, February 18

Please note that Tuesday, February 18 is an Early Release Day so that teachers can participate in professional development activities. High School classes will end at 11:30.

Hardened Shelter Drill

We will hold an all-school Hardened Shelter evacuation drill on February 20 at 10:50 am.

High School Talent Show

We hope to see you at the High School Talent Show Thursday evening. Check the HS Morning Announcements next week for more information.

Skyward Opening Date

The gradebook section of Family Access on Skyward will open again after school on February 20. Students are encouraged to speak with their teachers face-to-face about progress and academic performance.

Second Semester Exams, and Graduation

Second semester exam dates are June 1-2 for seniors and June 3-8 for grades 9-11. Please keep in mind while you plan your summer travels that seniors are able to depart after graduation and underclassmen after their final examination. Please note that no exams will be given early.

Graduation – A memo will be circulated to all parents of seniors in early March outlining the events leading up to graduation. As we know that some extended family members plan to come to Cairo please note that this year’s Graduation Ceremony is on Friday, June 5.

Counseling Department Announcements

Course Registration

Current grades 9 & 11 students: completed course registration cards were due to the HS counseling office by 11 February. Please turn in your cards ASAP.

11th Grade College Planning Meetings

Thank you for attending Junior College Night this week! Juniors, please schedule your college planning meetings with your parents and your counselor in the next few weeks. Meetings should take place before April 30th.

10th Grade Course Planning Meetings

Sophomores, please schedule your course planning meetings, to include your parents and your counselor, as soon as possible. The course registration cards are due March 10th.

High School Students and Parents for Grades 9-11:

Learn more about a typical summer program offered in the US!

A representative from the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) will be at CAC on 17 February (Monday) to talk about their summer enrichment programs. Through the programs, one can learn about future careers, experience life on campus at a U.S. university and develop essential leadership and team building skills.

HIAMUN Conference

CACMUN Club is sending 11 delegates to Al Hayah Academy to participate in the annual HIAMUN Conference. They will attend 3 days starting Thursday, 13 February. We wish them all the best.

CAC PTO Gala – Bus Transportation

PTO is providing bus transportation for the Gala guests that will take everyone to the Mena House and back to CAC on Friday, February 14th.
Two buses will be leaving CAC at the back gate at 6:30 PM, and two buses will be bringing guests back to CAC, one leaving at 12:15 AM and another leaving at 1:15 AM.
Please make sure you let the PTO know if you plan to use this organized transportation, so that we may have a good estimate of how many people will be using this service. Simply email cacpto@cacegypt.org. Thank you!

Wrestling Results, AES New Delhi Invitational 2.8.20

The CAC wrestling team traveled to AES New Delhi for the MESAC Invitational Wrestling Tournament on February 7 and 8, 2020. Eleven CAC wrestlers competed with wrestlers from AES NEw Delhi, the International School of Bangkok, and ACS Abut Dhabi. CAC ended with 5 wrestlers in the championship, 3 finishing with gold and 2 silver. Four more CAC wrestlers were in bronze medal matches, with two taking bronze and two finishing fourth. The final two CAC wrestlers finished in 5th and 6th, winning some matches during the event as first year wrestlers. See final results below. Congratulations to all wrestlers!!

Financial Aid

To apply for travel assistance, please complete all questions in the Google form below. The decisions of the committee are final and will be communicated to the requesting family only.

Financial aid applications will be reviewed for winter sports- wrestling, dance, ISAA trips (girls and boys basketball, girls and boys swimming) and activities trips- THIMUN, AMIS MS Honor Choir, AMIS HS Honor Choir and MS Math Counts.

Library Closed February 18 Afternoon

The MHS library will close at 11:30 am on Tuesday, February 18, which is an early release day for students. This will allow the library staff to participate in the positive education training scheduled for faculty and staff that afternoon.

Booster Club Art Contest

The Booster Club’s annual Art Contest is up and running! The theme this year will be: “Caring for our Planet”. If you would like to participate for a cash prize and to have your artwork possibly featured in an amazing new Spirit Store product please come to the Spirit Store any time during opening hours to get your application form, including instructions for the contest. The contest is open to all ages, as well as parents and alumni, so we hope to see lots of CAC artists apply. Good luck and have fun creating art!

Girls Get Strong

CAC will host its 5th Girls Get Strong conference on Saturday, February 15th. This year’s theme is Girls Get Strong: It’s Within You! Ms. Riddle and a group of student leaders are working hard to assemble an amazing group of community members to lead workshops and fitness activities, provide financial support, or to show their general support for our female students.
