The energy is certainly back on campus! This week, we have enjoyed watching our soccer and volleyball teams compete against local schools in several matches. The campus was buzzing last night as students, staff and parents turned out to enjoy the games and show their support for our teams. High quality athletic entertainment was on display and that special CAC community feel was in full effect! Look out for more games next week.

Grade 9 parents came to campus on Tuesday for a coffee morning with the high school administration and counselors. We discussed the transition from middle to high school and shared ideas for supporting our youngest high school students in being successful with their learning this year. Grade 12 parents were also invited to school this week to learn more about the IB Diploma Program and what the G12 year will look like for the IB students. Partnership with parents is an extremely important element of an effective education and we are committed to this here at CAC.

Your children were dismissed early today so that teachers could come together for an afternoon of professional development. Faculty have been examining the CAC Learning and Teaching Principles and enquiring into the big picture pedagogical thinking that frames these principles. Teachers collaborated in small groups to review up-to-date research and examine their own practices and curriculums by asking how these broad pedagogical ideals inform daily practices in the classroom.

Over the next two weeks the fun for students will continue. Spirit Week is on the horizon and those of you who have been at CAC for a while will understand the energy and excitement that surrounds this very special week in our high school calendar. For those who are new, fasten your seatbelt for an exhilarating ride in the week of the 25th of September and don’t be surprised if your child decides to come to school wearing wild and wacky outfits that week! Making the educational experience fun while building community and a sense of belonging are key characteristics of the CAC experience.

Finally, next week we will mark the UN International Day of Peace on the 21st September. Our high school community will gather for an assembly and take time to reflect on the significance of this day and the roles we can all play in helping our world to be a caring, accepting and more peaceful place. Homeroom teachers will also be exploring these themes in homerooms next week.

Wishing you a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
