CAC High School Principal’s Notes

Winter Concert 2022

Thank you to Senior parents and Booster Club

It’s that time of year and the holiday season is almost upon us! We must say a big thank you to our senior parents and the booster club for providing us with some wonderful holiday cheer this week. The booster club provided hot chocolate for all high school students earlier in the week and our senior parents provided a wonderful brunch for the Grade 12s.

Arts Assembly

Today, we enjoyed a fantastic arts assembly in the theater—the perfect way to wrap up the term before switching our focus to exams next week. A big thank you to our arts teachers: Mr Lazar, Ms Erica, Mr Alex, Ms Allinson and Mr McCuaig, who have been working hard with the students through the course of this semester and who collaborated to produce this amazing showcase of artistic talent at CAC. We enjoyed musical performances from the high school band, choir and strings ensemble. We were treated to an overview of the visual artwork that our artists have created this semester and a performance from the Theater Making class. All in all, it was a wonderful end to the week. Creativity is one of CAC’s core values and coming together in this way to celebrate the creativity and achievements of our artistic students is an important part of our holistic education.

Exams update

Semester exams run from Sunday December 11 – 14, 2022, with make-up exams on Thursday, December 15. Students with off campus privileges are allowed to leave campus after their last exam for the day. For students who do not have off-campus privileges, their parents may approve temporary privileges to leave campus early during Exams Week. In these cases, parents should email the HS office to give temporary authorization, and the student should stop by the HS Office with his/her ID card.

Students must sit for their exams as scheduled. Only in cases of medical or family emergency may a student retake a missed exam. If a student is unable to attend school for these reasons, parents are asked to email the school by 9:00 am, and submit documentation upon their child’s return to school. Please feel free to email Ms. McCall if you have any additional questions about attendance during exams week.

We wish students all the best in their endeavors next week.

Counseling Department Announcements

Week of December 8, 2022

Gr 9 Seminar – Stress Management

This week the counseling and PE departments collaborated and co-taught lessons about the importance of health and wellbeing through the lens of stress management. Specifically we discussed the differences between worry, anxiety and stress, along with coping/help strategies that students can add to their daily routines or as needed. We also introduced the Stress Performance Curve. Lessons were tied into exam preparation and the importance of everyday movement.

ACT Prep Course

CAC has partnered with Higher Ground Learning to offer a 2-weekend in-person ACT prep course at CAC in March. To learn more about registration and the cost, please click here. There must be at least 5 people enrolled for the course to take place.

ACT Test information:

Students may register for the upcoming 22-23 test dates at CAC, or other test locations in Cairo. Please go here to find out more.

Grade 12

Upcoming Applications: Students should continue working on applications for the later USA EA & RD submissions, The Netherlands, UC’s, and UCAS. The internal CAC deadline to have all applications complete and ready to submit through January 15th was Nov. 30th.

Students should continue to check application portals on a regular schedule after an application is submitted, to see if there are any additional requirements or SRAR (Self-Reported Academic Record) forms to fill out.

Document Request Forms: Seniors submitting applications must be sure to submit a Document Request Form (DRF) to the counseling office. This form ensures we know exactly what documents are needed to send to each of the different institutions being applied to. If your seniors have not yet submitted the DRF’s for the UC’s and any earlier January deadline dates, they need to do so ASAP as those must be processed before winter break (students can still work on the student submission after Dec. 15th, but the CAC portion must be submitted to our office before winter break).
