Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a busy week for students and teachers as we finalize all the paperwork and the selection of roommates. The PRIME Trips is one of those memorable experiences that your son or daughter will remember from their middle school years.

In sixth-grade Math our students are working in collaboration to solve number problems.

In eighth-grade social studies our students are presenting and debating on political philosophers. While the topic seems highly sophisticated, the students have been doing a tremendous job of contributing respectfully to class discussions. As well as, offering ideas while considering others viewpoints.

We issued our first set of progress reports for Semester One. We hope that this brief snapshot of learning will provide students and parents with valuable information about the progress being made toward academic learning goals. We will also be issuing progress reports electronically using Skyward. Parents will be asked to log-on to Skyward to check their child’s progress. If you did not receive the message with the login instructions, please send an email to felduweini@cacegypt.org.

In the case of all progress reports, teachers will report only on their Approaches to Learning. In some cases, but not all, students will also receive a Narrative Comment from their teacher. These comments are not required from teachers for progress reports. Please find time to talk with your child about their learning and specifically, we ask you to focus your attention on the Approaches to Learning. We report on these separately and find that students who perform well on their Approaches to Learning generally also do well in the areas of Academic Achievement.

We had our first session of the Exploratory block in middle school on Tuesday afternoon and it was a well received experience for all involved. It was a challenge for some teachers to let go and it was difficult for some students to choose what they wanted to do because the choices were vast. As time past the students will realize more and more about themselves and their own strengths. In middle school students are encouraged and motivated to use their top strengths because those strengths make them feel energized and authentic.

The Battle of the Books was launched on Wednesday and I am looking forward to reading some of the books. The following students; Kodjiro, Joyanna, William, Vidit, Ella and Lina did an outstanding job with the presentation of the books.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,

Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal
