Middle School Principal’s Letter
Thank you for reading this week’s version of the News and Views. We had a busy week of teaching and learning in middle school. With only three weeks remaining before the winter break, our students will be busy preparing for summative assessments. You can help them by making sure they are getting enough rest and getting the proper nutrients that their bodies require.
Our teachers spent three days learning from literacy coach Tonya Gilchrist. At the middle school, we are looking at creating a more balanced literacy program for our students. What that means is we want students to read, write, and think critically. Therefore, we refuse to measure our students as a data point, but instead, as human beings who have the potential to grow with the right instruction.
I hope you were able to attend the Winter Music concert last evening to hear the Beginning band, MS choir, Concert band, and MS strings perform. It was lovely to sit back in a packed theater and listen to the brilliant performance of our students’. Kudos! To Mr. McCuaig and the students.
We had our Battle of the Books (BOB) finals on Wednesday during lunch. All the teams were prepared and did an outstanding job of answering the questions. We are proud of our students and hope to continue building a love for reading in middle school.
The social and emotional learning in middle school happens in significant part through our Advisory
program. It carries over into the other classes throughout the day. The theme this week is “gratitude,” and in their circle of trust, students shared what they were grateful for in their lives. As a faculty, we are thankful for having such excellent students to work with.
In a build-up to next week’s Story Fest on campus, our students benefited from having two of the performers stopped by, and worked with the musical drama class.
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
