Middle School Principal’s Letter

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was another solid week of learning, exploring and having fun in middle school.

I hope you had an opportunity to attend the Talent Show last Thursday. As always, I was amazed at the talent of some of our students; we never know what surprise they will present to us. Kudos! To all the students who participated in the show. A special thank you to Ms. Spencer, Ms. Urbiztondo, Ms. Torky, Mr. Johnson, and Mr. Khalifa. The time and effort dedicated to the students and the performance were outstanding. I want to thank our teachers for being role models for the core value of compassion.

Our X-block continues with many new and exciting activities. In the first semester, for Personal Development we discussed the first two agreements “Use Your Words Impeccable” and “Don’t Take Anything Personally.” This semester the focus is on the final two agreements – “Not Making Assumptions” and “Always Do Your Best”. Author Miguel Ruiz (1997) stated, when you honor these four agreements together, you are way more likely to live a happy life because you will be more in control of your feelings and emotions.

Our MathCounts team returned from Chennai where they represented us very well. The team finished second overall. It was quite an accomplishment for our students and teachers. Thanks to Ms. St.Amand and Ms. Kumar for all their efforts prior to and during the event.

The MS sports season has begun with a bang. The girl’s and boy’s basketball team won their games last Thursday, and the volleyball team won their game on Sunday. The middle school girl’s and boy’s soccer team started training on Monday, and are looking forward to a successful season. It will be a busy sports time for our athletes. We are asking that parents make sure their child is eating properly and getting at least eight hours of rest each night.

Our students recently implemented peer coaching after school to help each other. As one can see from the photograph, there is no teacher in the room. It is for students by students. This is not a mandatory activity, it’s an opportunity for students to attend because they want to learn.

I am encouraging all parents to attend the Positive Education presentation by Dr. Ron Lalonde next week on February 18th at 8:00 am in room 116.

Thank you for our continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal
