Middle School Principal’s Letter

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. We had another fun week of exploring and learning.

Thank you to all parents who were able to make it out this week for our afternoon and full-day parent-teacher conference, on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was great to see so many parents in attendance. We hope that having the opportunity to meet with teachers and hear about your child’s academic progress, will lead to a productive conversation at home. We required students to be at the conference because it is vital for students to hear what their teachers have to say about them as learners.

The WHO has shared tips to help children cope with stress during the 2019-nCoV outbreak.
Children may respond to stress in different ways such as being more clingy, anxious, withdrawing, angry or agitated.

  • If possible, make opportunities for the child to play and relax.
  • Talking to people you trust can help. Contact your friends and family.
  • It is best to respond to your child’s reactions in a supportive way.
  • Listen to their concerns and give them extra love and attention.
  • Keep routines schedule as much as possible.
  • Provide facts about what has happened.
  • Limit worry and agitation by lessening time spent watching or listening to media coverage.
  • Give them clear information about how to reduce their risk of being infected by the disease in words they can understand depending on age.

We will continue to emphasize the importance of learning, as well as playing and relaxing at school. Please keep your child home if they have a cold or the flu.

Due to the lack of time to prepare for Spirit Week, we will postpone it until April 5th.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal
