Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. Our focus this week was our student-led conferences. The conferences are an integral part of a child’s middle experience. However, without the parent’s participation, it loses its merit. During the conference students gain a sense of ownership for their learning and they are proud to share it with you. They also feel more connected with you and valued because they have your undivided attention. It is times like these when a child needs that sense of belonging and attention that only a parent can provide.
Students need to be encouraged to plan, organize, and monitor their own work, direct their own learning, while reflecting on their progress along the way. Our teachers provide students with opportunities to be aware of their own knowledge and their own thinking, as a result, student ownership increases. The middle school years are about building habits “Once you form your habits, your habits form you” and we pride ourselves in developing our students as learners. Regardless of the platform, in the classroom, or at home on their laptops.
Thank you for taking the time to participate in the conference with your child and sharing a photo of your experience. SLC photos
Thank you to all the parents who were present during the virtual Principal Coffee Morning. I am hoping you came away with some insight on how to “Refuel When You Are Feeling Emotionally Drained.” We have shared the link here and in the morning announcement.
We will be having our Virtual Cairo Round of the World Scholars Cup next week Wednesday and Thursday. Thanks to Dr. Gallagher for all her efforts.
We have come to the end of another week, and I want to thank you for working in partnership with us to make this e-learning experience a success.
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal
