Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. Thank you, parents, and students, for all you have done to continue implementing the mitigation protocol in your home.
During these times, we need to have concrete ways to help students self-regulate and prioritize work. As parents, you are doing so much more now with your child and their learning. You are discovering that the school day often comes with lots of emotion, everything from joy to frustration, making it the perfect place to practice self-regulation. According to the president of the Learning Policy Institute, “We learn by watching others. A teacher or parent is modeling their recognition of their emotions and modeling how to deal with them creatively. That is the first step in helping children learn to manage their feelings.
Regularly, we want to build empathy to know that all humans experience a range of emotions across a day, and each person is doing their best to manage them productively.
We want students to learn and practice how to prioritize and tackle tasks for academic and life success. In middle school, we emphasize executive functioning skills as necessary because students have to juggle work from multiple classes with many deadlines. During the advisory classes, teachers empower students to use work time efficiently to feel more productive.
On Thursday, November 19th, we will be issuing our second Progress Report Cards. We will be reporting out on the student’s commitment to online learning and their Approaches to Learning (ATLs), along with the Standards they are studying in class. Considering that students are doing online learning from home two to three times per week, we need to give them feedback and hold them accountable for their learning.
Their report cards will include a new ATL labeled “Commitment to Online Learning.”
Standard ATL feedback (Consistently, Usually, Sometimes, and Rarely) will be used to assess the students’ commitment to online learning.
Standards studied in class (Exceeding, Meeting, Approaching, and Not Yet) will be used to assess students.
Only students receiving Rarely in the ATLs at school or online will receive a comment.
New students will receive a comment welcoming them to CAC.
We have been adapting Egyptian Myths into plays in the drama wheel, and this group took it to the next
level with their masks/headdresses!
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal

Book Donations Packing
We have books in the ES Storage that were not needed. Some of these books were part of a science set that we had already donated last year to the Educate Me Foundation. We contacted them again this year to complete the set we donated earlier. They sent two teachers to check the books and decide if they can be useful to them. They came and selected the books that they needed. We had more books, so we contacted Awladi Orphanage and they also told us that they could these books.
They also need; colors, markers, paper, any stationery material. If you can provide these, please bring them so they can be packed with books.
We need support to pack these books so they can be delivered. If you can help packing, please sign up here. You will need to request editing rights.
Delivery to Educate Me will be on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 9:00 am
Delivery to Awlady will be on Wednesday, Nov. 11 the time will be decided later
