Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. We had a shortened week with an ERD day on Wednesday that allowed our teachers to work on the accreditation process.

It is Thanksgiving, and we would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving even if you don’t celebrate the day.

We are entering the time of year when the bad weather starts to impact what we do. However, this year, COVID-19 mitigations will take precedence over air quality indoor fun. Our students will continue to eat and play outdoors. Their outdoor play will be limited to low activity on poor air days. Given the circumstances, students’ movement is restricted to being at their desks, socially distanced. It is essential that they can be outdoors, and wearing their masks will help support this if we have poor air quality. Students who have medical conditions such as asthma will remain indoors, and they will be able to access the library or their teacher’s classroom during their breaks.

The GSS lunch was a special day for our GSS staff and our community members. We know that gratitude is a social emotion, and it was great to see everyone’s gratitude on Tuesday as the GSS lunch brought people together. Despite not being able to host the lunch on campus, a lot of effort was made by the CAC community to make sure lunch was delivered to the families of our GSS staff.
After reading the thank you note that our Middle School students wrote to the GSS staff, I became inspired. We know first-hand that our students expressing gratitude can strengthen ties between the staff and students. By promoting gratitude in our school, we’ll foster these kinds of connections on a much wider scale, helping both students and the school to thrive. Thank you to Ereeny, all the students, teachers, administrative assistants, and the PTO for their efforts to plan and implement this community act of kindness.

We had our first week with the sixth-graders on campus, and we realize that students will need to be reminded that we can’t relax the mitigations. As I have mentioned before, we need to continue following the mitigation protocols, especially with the number of students on campus increasing. I want to thank teachers for their ability to pivot to having more students on campus.

The middle school X-Country/Fitness team, competed at the Olympic Stadium earlier this week. It was a great way to end six weeks of training. The students had a wonderful time running and cheering each other on to do their best.

Thank you for your continuous support of the Middle School.

In Partnership,

Courtney Bailey

Middle School Principal

THANK YOU CAC!
This is the power of our community.

On behalf of our GSS staff, we would like to send a sincere heartfelt THANK YOU! to everyone who supported the Appreciation Lunch. We had different teams coordinating food orders: Seniors, Class of 2024, HS StuCo, PTO, Support Staff, MS Faculty & Staff and PreK Parents. We also received individual orders from students, faculty, staff & parents.

Almost 100 student, parent, faculty and staff volunteers helped over the course of the day at different time intervals. What an Amazing Team Spirit! Everyone’s mission was to appreciate our GSS by contributing their effort, time & money. The result was mind blowing. Our goal was only to have the 147 meals covered. However, we received almost 400 MEALS and DESSERTS! Each one of our GSS received a personalized bag with 2 or 3 meals, a set of assorted desserts, 2 drinks and an appreciation note written by students. We also shared meals with the police around the school.

Middle School Thanksgiving Clothing Drive
Sunday, Nov. 29

MS Student Council is sponsoring a clothing drive to donate to – The Egyptian Clothing Bank, MOVE Egypt, and Awladi Orphanage.

Let’s show our thanks by giving. As the weather gets colder and we start organizing our winter and summer clothes, it’s a good time to sift through your small and unused clothing items. We are collecting gently used clothing items and blankets to donate to those in need of all ages, infant to adult size (includes: T-shirts, sweaters, socks, pants, jackets, etc).

Click these links to know more about the organizations; The Egyptian Clothing Bank, MOVE Foundation and Awlady Orphanage

The drive is running till Sunday, November 29. ( Bring your Clothing donations to the red donation box in the front gate are. (the box will be renovated after this drive). The delivery will be on the week of Nov.29

Middle school students should bring their items to their advisory classroom to be counted and stored. The advisory that collects the most clothing items will win a lunch of their choice.

Remember: all items must be clean and in good condition. Please do not bring torn or worn out items. Students, please make sure you have your parents’ permission to donate the clothing items.

In honor of our 75th anniversary, our goal is to reach 75 kilos of clothing/blankets to donate. Help us reach that goal!

From the MS/HS Library

CAC Libraries Closed This Weekend
The CAC libraries will be closed this Saturday, November 28 for the Thanksgiving break. Please see list of open Saturdays here.

You will need to make an appointment for Saturdays through the online booking system on the CAC dashboard. Please note that parents cannot make appointments for library use during the week.

Saturday hours are for check in and checkout only. If you need to do any other library business, like for example, clear your account for withdrawal from CAC, you will need to contact the library during the week. Mrs. Fitzgerald can be reached at librarian@cacegypt.org.

Quarantining of library materials is now after check in
We recently received an update to our library circulation system which allows us to check in materials and then quarantine them for 3 days. It was the other way around until now, which led to some confusion. Notices of materials checked out and overdue notices will now be up to date as of 7:30 am of the day they are issued.
