Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a wonderful week for both students and teachers on campus.
Our teachers are grateful that they don’t have to plan separate lessons, and the students are happy to be sitting from across their friends and socializing with them. The teachers are back to teaching classroom routines all over again. It’s important to let students know the “why” behind the routine. Is it for safety purposes? When students understand why they’re doing a routine, it can help them feel like they have some control over keeping themselves and their classmates safe and supported.
On Saturday, February 6th, the Chapter Competition of Mathcounts will take place on campus. CAC Mathcounts A and B teams students will participate. We ask that all students be on campus by 1:00 pm, and we will begin the event at 1:15 pm. Good Luck to all Mathathletes. We are looking forward to returning to ASA in the upcoming weeks. We intend to provide our students with an opportunity to improve their fundamental skills in one of the following sports: soccer, volleyball, and basketball.
During Semester one, students in the Community Service class designed and created activity books and gave them as a gift to the kindergarten children of Awlady Orphanage. It is incredible to see the children in the photos below learn, explore and have fun.
February is Black History Month. To quote Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society.” Dr. King believed that “The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.”
In recent decades, research has lent support to his argument. With our new scientific understanding of students’ social, emotional, and ethical development, I think we can safely say that “successful” education involves more than academic achievement alone. The work of teachers shapes our students, which means that education helps shape our world.
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal
