Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was another week of learning, exploring, and having fun.

In the spirit of Ramadan, our students in Mixed Media were making Ramadan lanterns.

Today we will post semester two progress reports two. This report will include academic grades and ATLs. Students with N’s and R’s will receive a comment. Please take the time to go over the ATLs and grades with your child.

I want to congratulate all our core values winners in grades 6, 7, and 8.

The PTO recently announced this year’s Grant recipient winner and it was Ms. Lisa Young, our Math/Science teacher. Ms. Young will be using the funds to start the first lego league program that competes internationally. This will be exciting for many of our students who are keen on becoming engineers.

In keeping with the spirit of Earth Day, we held a minute version of the Race to Clean the Air because it is an integral part of our environmental unit in grade seven social studies. Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd every year. The goal to raise awareness within our community about climate change and global warming. The day inspires us to act towards the protection of the environment and focus on the need for conservation.

This year, our students walked laps and got sponsorships to help maintain the midans around the school. The students also went out to collect trash in their advisory group.
While these are small initiatives, they still have a positive impact on our community.

The students were fantastic with their efforts today and we applaud them for their efforts.

Thanks for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,

Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal

Student physical requests for 2021/22
If your student will be entering grades 3,6 or 9 next school year, we ask that he/she is seen and examined by a doctor, and a physical form completed and sent to the health office on or before the first day of school in August.
We are more than happy to accept early completed physicals as of now, either by email or hand-delivered to security at the front gate.

NESA Parents as Partners 2.0: Final Session 8 with Erma Anderson
Tuesday, April 27, 4:00-5:00pm (Athens, Greece GMT+3)

Promoting a Summer Stride, Diminishing the Summer Slide
As summer approaches, many parents are wondering what they can do to keep their child engaged in learning. Summer learning loss—the summer slide—in a ‘normal’ year has been well documented, with studies from a number of countries suggesting that in a ‘normal’ year, students can lose 25-50 percent of their school year gains in mathematics (with less dramatic overall losses in reading, writing, and spelling). The challenges of this unprecedented year, the many and varied disruptions in student learning, have produced additional concerns about student learning loss.

Studies suggest we can prevent summer learning loss by engaging our children in summertime reading, math games, and hands-on STEM activities. But the benefits depend on making sure children are truly stimulated — and having fun! Join us as we provide strategies and resources for engaging your child in a rewarding educational summer. With a little time, planning, and creativity, you can play an important part in making sure this summer matters in advancing your child’s learning, health, and well-being.
