Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was another week filled with the fun celebration of Valentine’s Day. Students went all out to decorate the building.
It is that time of year again when we ask students to select their elective classes for the upcoming school year. The current seventh-graders will make their choices between Feb 15 – 21st. The current six-graders will do it from Feb 21 – 27th. Finally, the incoming sixth graders will have from Feb 28 – Mar 13th. The current eighth-graders will have an information session on February 24th regarding their course selection for high school.
Congratulations to STUCO and their organizers! Ms. Torky, Ms. Spencer, and Ms. Urbiztondo, for a festive and fun Valentine’s Day Celebration. There were over 250 roses purchased, along with 150 cookies and 100 sing-o-gram sung by our musicians. I want to thank Ms. Fahmy, Ms. Torky, Ms. Christensen, Ms. Urbiztondo, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Perez, Mr. White, and Mr. Kasal. These individuals went around the campus and serenaded their colleagues with their beautiful voices and cheerful spirit.
On Thursday, Feb 24th, we will be posting semester two progress reports online. We want to remind you that the report will focus on the ATLs. Any student receiving a “Rarely”, as well as alll new students, will receive a comment and anyone receiving a Rarely. It is very important that you take the opportunity to have a conversation with your child about how they are doing emotionally, before you discuss their ATLs. It just might surprise you how it changes the direction of the conversation, and what they have to share.
We are thankful and excited to announce our annual talent show. To comply with COVID mitigation protocols, we will have the show outside on Tuesday, March 1st, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. We will not be selling tickets. The show will be for parents and siblings of performers and students in the middle school only to keep a low number of attendance.
We have moved the PRIME Trips date to the week of March 27 – 31st. The final program for all three grades will be shared on February 24th. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the grade-eighth trip to Siwa. Therefore, all trips will be day trips except for eighth-graders who will spend one night in Ain Sokhna. The seventh-grade PRIME Trip will be tied to the service component in the curriculum. And the sixth-graders will have a pharaonic culture experience.
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal

Global Issues Service Club: Donation Drive to Caritas Egypt
The Global Issues Service Club has resumed its service projects again. GISC will be supporting Caritas, a refugee organization in Egypt. We will be collecting school supplies and winter clothes/blankets to help them throughout the year. As our aim is to provide a chance of education to these refugees, we would also encourage all faculty & staff members to provide books and educational materials in the red donation boxes, located in different places around the school; the front gate and the new high school building during the period February 21st to February 24th.

Why Service Learning Matters to Schools, Your Children, and YOU:
Bringing Learning to Life
Presented by Cathryn Berger Kaye
Author & Education Consultant, CBK Associates
Our schools are charged with preparing young people for an ever-changing and complex world. Educators can harness the innate desire of children and teens to be creators, catalysts, collaborators, and change makers using service learning: a reliable process that involves youth in acquiring knowledge, skills, and transformative attributes. As parents, we can elevate their curiosity and be their biggest cheerleaders. Let’s do this! Discover more about the Five Stages of Service Learning, see examples of what youth do, and find out why service learning is integral to international schools all over the world.

To join this session, you don’t need to re-register. You may use the same link you used previously. Or, you may register again to receive a new email/link.
