Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s edition of the News and Views. It was another week of fun, learning, and exploring in middle school.
We wish all the families who celebrate Western Easter an enjoyable holiday.
I want to thank all parents who attended the Parent-Teacher Conferences this week. It was an opportunity for you to meet with teachers and hear how your child is doing in class. We hope you and your child have set goals to finish the year strong.
In Grade 6 Science, the students are using a Dichotomous Key to help them complete their Owl Pellet Bone Chart.
During lunchtime, a few students invented their own game. Watching how they organized themselves without any teacher’s supervisionwas very creative and fun—another reason to be proud of our students.
On Wednesday, students were engaged in the MAP testing process. It was exciting listening to students reflect on their scores, and connect to their strengths, challenges, and circumstances. One student said, “my mom gave me a big breakfast,” and thought that helped. Another student said, “I only had cereal,” and noticed that she felt tired halfway through the test. Your support is needed to set your child up for success by making sure that they get enough sleep the night before; and -those who can- have a healthy breakfast before coming to school. The next test date is Wednesday, April 20th.
We were fortunate to have Jordan Hatter here this week to speak to our students in Social Studies about the work he does with refugees worldwide. Jordan’s message to the students was that you should never give up, and if you have a passion, you should follow it, because a pebble can cause a ripple in the ocean.
The students had a first-hand experience speaking to a Syrian refugee via Zoom. The experience was powerful for the students. It was great to see how thoughtful the students were in asking and responding to questions.
Congratulations to Mr. McCuaig and the performing arts department for organizing a successful Spring Music Festival. It was beautiful to see the students perform with such passion. You could see they were having fun. I want to thank everyone who attended the festival; it means a great deal to them to have their parents and friends in the audience.
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal
