Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for reading this week’s version of the News and Views. The students are busy doing summative assessments, as we prepare for next August. I had the pleasure of meeting with the fifth-graders this week. It was insightful for me to hear the students’ fears and hopes of moving up to middle school.
One of the areas we want to continue focusing on is digital literacy and weaving it through the various subject areas. The digital literacy design team in the middle school will be training teachers during our orientation week on how to implement the activities during the first seven weeks of school.
There’s no way to determine how technology will be used unless it starts with the generation that it’s affecting the most. We are asking parents to partner with teachers and form a united front. We can support students as they navigate through a world converging with technology.
Student-Led Conferences, Tuesday, May 24, after school (on-campus):
Student-Led Conferences will be held after school on Tuesday, May 24th. The focus of the Student-Led Conference will be on the growth your child has experienced this year in all aspects of learning, whether in a core class, an elective class, or an after-school activity. Students will talk about enduring learning and about their goals, showing you evidence of work supporting their journey towards achieving these goals. This will be an opportunity for your child to show you work they have created that they are particularly proud of or that they have learned from, applying our CAC core values and Approaches to Learning.
The Student-Led Conferences will be hosted in your child’s Advisory teacher’s room, and you should have received an invitation from your child’s advisory teacher with the time slot that you will attend: 3:15–4:00 OR 4:05–4:50. It is our expectation that all students and their parents will participate. Conferences will last for about 45 minutes. Please be on time for the conference.
PRIME Trip 22/23 Informational Meeting for Parents (parents only), Tuesday, May 24, after SLC Conferences:
Please note that we will also host grade-level informational meetings for parents on PRIME trips for the upcoming school year. The meetings will be held in Room 115 following the Student-Led Conferences:
7th Grade Trip: 5:30-6:00 PM (current 6th-grade students)
8th Grade Trip: 6:00-6:30 PM (current 7th-grade students)
We will be having an Art Auction beginning on May 24th to raise funds for a local charity. You may have seen a sample of the work the students have done. A reminder that it is a silent auction, and the item will go to the highest bidder once the auction is closed.
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal
