Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a busy week of teaching, learning, and having fun in the middle school.

Congratulations to our coaches and athletes who competed in the ISSA competitions last weekend. Despite the fact that students brought home some medals, they shared that the most treasured gift for many was the opportunity to participate and compete again against other schools.

The Decisive Decade is upon us. We are deep into future thinking. Provocations about new ways to look ahead. Boards, school leaders, and teachers must go beyond the short-term view of the next decade to proactively take the long view, to be a good ancestor.

The world is undergoing tremendous changes that demand action: climate instability, pandemic disease and management, economic fragility, organizational and geopolitical uncertainty, systemic inequities, and eroded trust in our institutions. These shifts will radically reshape the global landscape in the next ten years, and the decisions we make today will shape our future for generations to come.

While these challenges appear daunting, they present opportunities. This is the moment to reevaluate daily life’s assumptions, practices, and activities. We must adjust to devise new strategies to build a more sustainable and equitable world. We are responsible for being good ancestors and preparing our students for the societies that they will engage with.

If you are interested in working with us to explore ways your company or organization is making a difference, we would like to hear from you. We realize that the education of our students should not rest within the walls of the classroom solely. There are phenomenal ways that we can engage our students otherwise.

To quote a recent graduate, “school should expose us more about what is happening in the real world. We spend too much time looking backward instead of looking ahead.”

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal
