Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. Besides all the normal amazing learning experiences, this week provided a perfect opportunity for students to step up to the challenge of being hosts and display our international-mindedness philosophy, on Wednesday, when we welcomed 40 Nepalese students on campus for an international cultural exchange.
Nepal is a country with immense cultural diversity, breathtaking landscapes, and rich history. The visitors’ presence on campus gave us a unique opportunity to learn more about their country and its people. Our students learned about the impact that climate change is having on the people of Nepal. Also, the Nepalese students performed for our students, and they participated in games to build friendships.
Congratulations to Ms. Dolly, Mr. McCuaig, and Mr. Khalifa for all their efforts to make Camp Rock a success. Also, I want to thank Ms. Urbiztondo for her work backstage with the thespians.
For Valentine’s Day, students and teachers received 200 roses, 400 cookies, and 70 sing-o-grams. It was a special day for students and faculty.
On Monday, we had the first speaker in our speaker series. Adriana Brownlee is a 22 years old Guinness world record holder and the youngest mountaineer to climb 10 of the 14 highest peaks in the world. She spoke to students about setting goals and being a risk-taker to grow. Adriana shared with students that following your dreams is important; anything is possible if you believe in yourself.
This is a reminder that we will be posting Semester two Progress Report One next Thursday. Remember that the focus of these reports will be the ATLs. All new students and students receiving a Rarely will receive a comment.
This year, twenty-one students from eight schools in the NESA region applied for the Haas/Hansen Student Award. The award honors students throughout the region who exhibit consistency, persistence, a willingness to take risks, acceptance of other points of view, and a genuine interest in and commitment to the welfare of others. I am delighted to inform you that Marwan Elnady, a student at Cairo American College, has been selected as a recipient of this year’s award. Marwan is recognized with a $1000 cash award for being the winner.
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
