Middle School Principal’s Letter
Thank you for reading this week’s edition of News and Views. We had a wonderful week of teaching and learning.
We will be sending home the MAP testing results next Tuesday, October 8th, along with the first-semester progress reports. We encourage you to take the time to sit down with your child and discuss their ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills together. These results, along with the progress reports, will guide teachers in helping students prepare for the upcoming student-led conferences in November.
As we look to the future, it’s important to remember that the world is changing rapidly. Our students must be equipped not only with knowledge but with an understanding of how they learn. In today’s dynamic job market, where students won’t necessarily remain in the same career for 20 to 30 years like previous generations, self-awareness as a learner is key. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing more details about how this learning process will unfold.
Our Grade 6 students have been highly engaged in their interdisciplinary project on Egypt, which will enrich their upcoming PRIME trip to Luxor. Here are some highlights:
– In Math, students are working on the theme Building the Future Pyramids.
– In Science, they are researching The River of Life.
– In Language Arts, they are preparing for a documentary on Myths and Legends of Ancient Egypt.
– In Social Studies, they are focusing on Buried Treasures: Designing a Pharaoh’s Tomb.
Additionally, the selection process for the Teranga Cup has been completed. The 16 boys and girls selected have been practicing diligently for the upcoming tournament in Senegal.Lastly, a big thank you to all the parents who have already completed the CIS community survey. If you haven’t had a chance yet, it’s not too late to participate.
Thank you again for being part of our amazing community!
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
