Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for reading this week’s News and Views. This week’s focus has been on parent-teacher conferences; it was good to see so many parents in attendance..
Attending parent-teacher conferences offers numerous benefits for parents, including: gaining a more comprehensive picture of their child’s academic and social development. By speaking directly with the teacher, you learn about your child’s strengths, areas needing improvement, and next steps for growth. We believe a stronger home-school partnership helps to build a meaningful relationship between parents and teachers. We hope that parents were able to learn specific strategies to help their child succeed.
As parents, we hope you took advantage of this opportunity to share valuable insights into your child’s interests, motivations, or personal challenges. Sharing this information can help teachers tailor instruction to meet the child’s needs more effectively.
During the week in grade six, math students have been working on percentages. Following direct instructions, the students worked in pairs with different manipulatives to further practice and enhance their understanding.
The eighth graders spent the week presenting their TED Talks. It was awesome to see the confidence and poise the students displayed on stage as they presented their topics.
Last weekend, CAC proudly hosted the largest ever Cairo Round of the World Scholar’s Cup, bringing together over 420 students from schools in Cairo and Alexandria. Over the course of two high-energy days, teams of middle and high school students tackled an exciting range of academic challenges. From spirited debates and persuasive writing to a demanding six-subject exam and a fast-paced multimedia quiz bowl, students collaborated, competed, and showcased their intellectual agility. Thirty-six of our middle and high school students helped CAC achieve an incredible series of successes, including being named the overall Champion Team in the Junior Division (Valerie, Livi, and Frank), while 9th graders Subham, Adham, and Karim took that honor in the Senior Division.
Valerie was the Champion Scholar in the Junior Division, as well as winning the coveted Jac Khor Award. Other notable achievements included the Champion Debate Team (Hussein, Amin, Xiwen), the Champion Challenge Team (Valerie, Livi, Frank), and the Champion Bowl Team (Valerie, Livi, Frank Jr., and Subham, Adham, Karim – Sr.). CAC students took home the top five places for individual debate champion, with Sean Asare our top debater for the weekend. There were numerous individual and team accolades, reflecting the passion and dedication that our students have invested in preparing for the event over the past few months. The whole weekend was a vibrant celebration of curiosity, teamwork, and scholarly spirit.
A huge thank you goes out to the following teachers: Mr. Miller, who gave up most of his weekend to the event, and Ms. Pumla Sathula and Ms. Jenny Kremer, who served as debate adjudicators on Friday.
As we look ahead, I want to remind you that students will take their Spring MAP testing the week of May 4th through May 8th. Please remind your child that this is coming up. I look forward to sharing more next week on how you can support your child.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our Middle School.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
