Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for reading this week’s edition of News and Views! It’s been another strong week of teaching and learning here at CAC.

Spirit Week kicks off on Sunday with Pajama Day, thanks to the efforts of STUCO. Both the high school and middle school will be participating this year, so expect a lively and spirited atmosphere across campus!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we warmly invite parents to join us for lunch on Wednesday, November 26, at 11:00 a.m. on the Middle School lawn. Come share a meal and some quality time with your child.

Students in the Intro to Sustainable Development class are installing prototype composting systems in the new CAC Earth Lab, part of our Collaborative Outdoor Open Learning space.

We’re also excited to announce that the American Math Competition (AMC) and MathCounts/Academic Games extracurricular program officially began on Wednesday, November 19. Sessions take place every Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:20 p.m. in Room MS 327.

Last year’s math season was a huge success—our students tackled challenging problems, honed their critical thinking skills, and earned top honors. Our AMC 8 team placed in the top 5% of all participating schools worldwide, earning an Honor Roll Certificate. We also held an internal MathCounts competition, where a sixth grader claimed first place, followed by two eighth graders in second and third. We look forward to another year of exciting mathematical exploration and achievement!

Finally, Anne of Green Gables has arrived at CAC! Opening night was a wonderful success the students and live orchestra delivered an outstanding performance. It’s thrilling to see a full two-act musical with live music back on our stage. We hope you’ll join us for one of the upcoming performances. The show runs approximately two hours and fifteen minutes, including a short intermission. Tickets are available at the door.

CAC will send a test SMS message to all parents on Wednesday, November 26, using the mobile phone numbers listed in Skyward. Please note that international phone numbers are not supported. If you need to update your number, please follow the instructions here and make sure your information is updated no later than Monday, November 24. If you do not receive the SMS by the end of the day on Wednesday, kindly email us at communications@cacegypt.org.

Food For Thought:

Believe in yourself. – Steve Wozniak

“First, you need to believe in yourself. Don’t waver. There will be people, and I’m talking about the vast majority of people, practically everybody you’ll ever meet, who just think in black-and-white terms.

Most people see things the way the media sees them or the way their friends see them, and they think if they’re right, everyone else is wrong.

So, a new idea, a revolutionary new product or product feature, won’t be understandable to most people because they see things so black and white.

Maybe they don’t get it because they can’t imagine it, or maybe they don’t get it because someone else has already told them what’s useful or good, and what they heard doesn’t include your idea.

Don’t let these people bring you down. Remember that they’re just taking the point of view that matches whatever the popular cultural view of the moment is. They only know what they’re exposed to. It’s a type of prejudice, actually, a type of prejudice that is absolutely against the spirit of invention.

But the world isn’t black and white. It’s a gray scale. As an inventor, you have to see things in gray scale. You need to be open. You can’t follow the crowd. Forget the crowd. And you need the kind of objectivity that makes you forget everything you’ve heard, clear the table, and do a factual study like a scientist would.”

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

Courtney
