Middle School Principal’s Letter
Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. Next week is Prime Trips week, our teachers and our parent volunteers have done their best to get everything organized. However, we do need your support in making this a memorable trip for the students and teachers. If you are planning on picking your child from the airport when the students return from the trip, you will need to fill in this form. A gentle reminder that there is no school on Sunday.
Our Semester One Progress Reports precede our upcoming Middle School Parent Teacher Conferences, which will take place on Tuesday, October 22nd, as indicated on the CAC calendar. These will be the first round of Parent/Teacher Conferences for Middle School. We have set aside this day on the calendar to provide an opportunity during the first half of the school year, for you to meet with teachers and discuss your child’s academic progress. Your son/daughter should attend the conferences with you to have that conversation with their teachers.
The Middle School runs an “arena style” conference format. The Middle School Auditorium, the MS Cafeteria, and classrooms on the Lower Level will be set up “arena” style, and tables will be organized by subject area (i.e. Math/Science, Social Studies/Language Arts).
Conferences are then structured to last no more than five minutes, to maximize the time available for all parents to meet with teachers. We ring a bell to signal the end of each five-minute session. We also stagger the schedule by family’s last name to avoid overcrowding and excessive wait time, as well as to provide short breaks and lunch for teachers.
We will also have a drop-in conference on Monday, October 21st, beginning at 3:15 – 5:00 pm. I will be sharing more information on how this process will work in my upcoming News and Views and the Morning Announcement.
On Wednesday, we had our first house event of the year, and it was great to see our students laughing while competing and having fun. Children need to play and be carefree. At this point in their development in middle school, we want them to learn that failing is learning how to do it better next time. Kudos, to Ms. Tatiana and Ms. Hassuna for the organization of the activity.
And finally, some of the 7th graders gathered on Tuesday morning to say (a very emotional) goodbye to Sofia Assecondi who’s moving to Abu Dhabi. It was a big reminder for everyone about how friends come and go a lot in international schools. It is never easy. We are very proud of students showing so much compassion towards each other and showing perseverance as they delivered speeches while being in a very emotional state. Sofi will be missed!
Thank you for your continued support of the Middle School.
In Partnership,
Couirtney Bailey
Moddle School Principal
