News&Views, Week of September, 23rd, 2021

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a week of learning, exploring, and having fun.

We are doing our part to be responsible by maintaining the layered mitigation protocol we have in place already. We are asking that you continue to socialize in your bubble and maintain a level of mitigation at home as well. Our success against the Covid-19 virus has demonstrated that by working together in partnership, we will be stronger.

The students did the MAP test on Monday for Maths, and on Wednesday, they did Reading. On Tuesday, we celebrated Peace Day with a creative assembly in the theater. The event was organized by Mr. McCuaig. The students in Mr. Johnson’s drama class did some powerful skits of what peace meant to them.

Grade 6 & 7 Parents Tea
: On Monday and Wednesday, Grade 6 & 7 parents were invited to a well-attended Morning and Afternoon Tea with Grade 6 & 7 teachers. The session was packed with valuable strategies, recommendations, and resources on topics such as the school-to-home transition, organization, study skills, habits and routines, and issues related to the social and emotional wellbeing of the sixth-grade students.

Thankfully, there was also coffee and plenty of chocolate chip cookies to cater to the social and emotional wellbeing of the parents. Here is a link to the Grade 6 presentation slides for parents who missed the meeting or would like to further explore the resources presented.

Grade 8 Parents Tea: We would like to invite Grade 8 parents to attend an informational session on Tuesday, October 5, from 8:00 to 9:00 AM in Room 115. During this session, Grade 8 teachers and students will provide parents with information about our coursework, strategies, resources, and tools for students’ academic success and social-emotional wellbeing. We will also explore ways to help your child prepare for the upcoming transition to High School. As we are in Phase 3 of CAC’s COVID-19 Operational Manual, we ask that each attendee please complete this RSVP form by Monday, October 4 by 3:00 PM, so we can properly accommodate the number of participants and meet mitigation guidelines. If you are unable to attend, we will be sharing the information presented in both the Morning Announcements and the MS News & Views later that week.

We are mindful of the amount of time spent on technology last year, and therefore, we are using more pens and paper in the classroom this year . All students have been given a planner, and teachers are providing time in class for them to write down assignments and other upcoming events. Therefore we encourage you to check their planners as needed to stay informed.

The ASA program is up and running.
