Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read the final version of the News and Views.
It was a short week with much to celebrate in middle school. This time of year is also a time for us to say goodbye to students and faculty moving on.

We want to wish Mr. Johnson, Ms. Lorna Fay Mills-Ossmann, Ms. Lisa Young, Mr. Ossmann, Ms. Christensen, and Ms. Samaha, who is retiring, all the best. Over the years, these teachers have given so much to the middle school and the CAC community. With sadness, we say goodbye, but they will forever be Screaming Eagles.

It was a year of normalcy that say our students were involved in PRIME Trips, the Talent Show, competing in the World Scholars Cup, performing in the Spring Music Festival, and ending the year with the International Festival. Oh! What an incredible year it was for our community.

Sometimes we get distracted and forget that school is first and foremost a community of learners, and we get caught up in some ill-conceived race to nowhere. But we have found humanity in the small moments and in the lessons we have learned through the pandemic.

The most human thing about the last three years is the gift of ambiguity. The exposure and experience of seeing what, before the pandemic, was hidden but became harder to hide jolted me and others out of the automatic pilot. The messiness of reality, the opportunity and choice presented, with a difference, to lean in with curiosity or lean away in judgment. Differences are always scary, and there are some legitimate historical reasons that people tend to tribalize for survival.

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to attend the end-of-year awards banquet. I knew it would be long. As the speeches began, I felt the pull to listen in a new way, a closer way, than I had in years past. I realized how much I was craving the human stories.

When I look for the moments of human connection that are often found in the everyday, banal experiences, I can’t help but become an optimist. These moments ground us in what is truly important and what it means to be human. During the slightly slower months, I encourage you to look for these moments, note them, and relish them.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal

Note From The Health Office
Dear Parents,
If your student will be entering grade 9 next school year, we ask that she/he is seen and examined by a doctor, and a physical form completed and sent to the health office, on or before the first day of school in August.
We are more than happy to accept early completed physicals as of now, either by email or hand-delivered to security at the front gate.

MS Summer Reading BINGO!
CAC Middle School presents you with a reading challenge this summer! How many books can you read? Let’s play bingo to find out. You need to complete 5 squares on this bingo card to successfully complete the bingo card.
You can complete as many bingo cards as you wish, but every book you read can only be used ONCE. Note: the Free Space is a wild card, you get to pick any book.

So, to recap, one bingo card = five unique books.

You also need to complete this Google Form to prove that you have successfully completed a bingo card (one Google Form for each bingo card of 5 books). Students, when you return to school in the fall, prepare to talk about these books! You need to complete at least one bingo card (5 books)!

Each bingo card you complete will be entered into a raffle to win awesome gifts. Winners will be drawn randomly from eligible entries. The more bingo cards you complete, the greater your chance of success!
