Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for reading this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a week full of events, and students are having a great start to the year. We have only been back two weeks, and given how well the students have settled in, it feels like we have been here for two months.
I want to thank all parents who attended the Back to School Night. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to meet the talented teachers who are going to be working with your child. The advisory sessions were well attended, and we hope you took the time to look at each teacher’s video on the middle school dashboard.
We were also excited to see many parents in attendance at the Principal New Parent Coffee Morning. We had a terrific discussion on transition and how it impacts not only students but also parents. We want to continue to build the home-school partnership, and your attendance to the coffee mornings supports this connection
Next week we will start MAP testing. The MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) is the only standardized test that we administer at CAC, and as such, it is crucial that students do their best.
Please have a conversation with your child over the weekend about the following:
- remind them that they will have enough time to read and answer all the questions.
- Some questions will be easy, and others will be more difficult. Altough they may not get all the answers correct, students DO need to answer ALL questions.
- Before they move on from a question, students may change their mind and pick a different answer.
- But, once they move to the next question, the answer is locked, and they cannot go back to the question they have already answered.
The test will take place in the students Math and Language Arts classes. It is important that students get enough rest the night before. We suggest that all students bring a refillable water bottle so they can stay hydrated during the test, as we want to avoid students taking water breaks outside the classroom. The propensity to be distracted on their way can be significant.
The grade-six team is organizing an afternoon tea on September 21, from 3:30 – 4:30. This information session will be structured to help you navigate the middle school as a new parent. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal
