Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was another solid week in middle school of teaching, learning, and having fun.

This week students are gearing up to celebrate next week’s Valentine’s day by purchasing a cookie, a rose, or a sing-o-gram for someone. We appreciate all the time and thought that the STUCO students put into organizing this event for everyone to enjoy.

On Tuesday, we had Parent Coffee Morning on the topic of Math and the work we have done over the last year and a half. Considering the feedback from the survey sent out earlier in the school year. The session was led by Megan Holmstrom, the Math consultant we have been working with since 2021. Here is the slides from our meeting, for your perusal 2023-24 Mathematics Curriculum Review @ CAC.

The students were informed about the upcoming course selections for next year. The window is open on Skyward for you to sit with your child and make their elective choices for next year.

We hope you already purchased your ticket for the musical production Camp Rock. It promises to have you rocking in your seat! If you don’t have a ticket, you can purchase one at the door.

Six weeks ago, we gave the grade 6 students at CAC a challenge: “Can we make a video that would excite tourists to see Ancient Egypt?” The challenge was met with resounding enthusiasm, and students set out to find a story they could tell using digital media.

We presented the students with a letter from a fictitious tourism company based in Cairo, Egypt. In the letter, the director pleaded with the students to help them problem-solve the issue of a dwindling tourism sector. Their task was simple: Make a 90-second video that would promote the history and celebrate the antiquity of Ancient Egypt. Additionally, they were asked to write a magazine article that profiles a particular object from the Ancient Egyptian world.

The students were exposed to a two-prong approach: Content and Digital Technology. Students were exposed to content in social studies while they were given opportunities to explore technology inside and outside the classroom.

The students then synthesized their understanding of the content and technology into presentations delivered to an esteemed group of expert panelists. Great job, 6th Grade!

On February 13th, our speaker series begins with Adriana Brownlee. At age 22, she is the youngest female climber to Summit Everest, K2. Adriana will speak on women’s leadership, risk-taking (IB), and perseverance. There will be limited space, so seats are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal
