Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s edition of News and Views. It has been an exceptional week for our students, who continue to impress us with their engagement in academics, activities, the arts, and athletics. Their dedication is a source of pride for all of us.

A special thank you to all the new parents who attended the coffee morning. It was a pleasure to see such strong participation from our fathers. At this critical stage in a child’s development, the role of a father becomes increasingly significant, and your presence speaks volumes. I hope that those in attendance found comfort in realizing that many of you share similar aspirations and concerns for your children’s growth.

Kudos! To Ms. Ereeny for her outstanding leadership in organizing the 3rd Annual Service Fair. This event serves as an invaluable opportunity for our students, teachers, and parents to connect with local community partners, broadening the scope of learning beyond the classroom. Through these connections, we inspire compassionate action and civic responsibility in our students. Behind every successful event is a dedicated team, and I want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank everyone who contributed behind the scenes to make it such a success.

Lastly, our students have now completed three days of MAP testing, and we are eager to share the results with you once all students have had the chance to finish. Some students were absent or needed additional time, and they will complete their tests during SSR next week. We appreciate your patience and look forward to providing a comprehensive update soon.

Grade 6 Parent Tea & Ancient Egypt Interdisciplinary Unit

On Sunday, September 9, Grade 6 parents were invited to an “Afternoon Tea” with Ms. Harouny (the Grade 6 team leader and learning support teacher), Mr. Kasal (the 6th Grade Social Studies teacher and PRIME Trip Coordinator), and Ms. Spencer (the MS counselor) after school. The session was packed with useful strategies, recommendations, and resources on topics such as the school-to-home transition, organization, study skills, habits and routines, and issues related to the social and emotional well-being of the students. Here is a link to the presentation slides for parents who missed the meeting or who would like to explore the resources presented further.

The Grade 6 team also included information about their upcoming interdisciplinary unit on Ancient Egypt. Starting this week, students will embark on an interdisciplinary exploration of Ancient Egypt, stepping back in time to delve into one of history’s most fascinating civilizations. Students will have the opportunity to choose from a range of engaging projects that span different subjects, including social studies, language arts, science, and math. Whether constructing a geometric model of a pyramid, designing a pharaoh’s tomb, directing a documentary on Egyptian mythology, or constructing a model of the Nile using scientific principles, each project is designed to deepen their understanding of this remarkable civilization.

This unit will culminate in November (date to be announced later), during “Egypt Fest”– a celebration and showcase of students’ learning.

Thank you for your continued support as we move forward together.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal
