Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for reading this week’s edition of the News and Views. It’s our first full week back from the holiday, and everyone is off to a strong start.

We were delighted to welcome world-renowned mountaineers Adrianna Brownlee and Gelje Sherpa, who have climbed 14 peaks over 8,000 meters to work with our seventh-grade physical education students. This visit marks the beginning of their Project Adventure unit. Notably, Adrianna holds a Guinness World Record as the youngest mountaineer to summit all 14 global peaks.

In Grade 8 Science, students are gearing up for the second “Storey Challenge.” They’re investigating whether it’s possible to accurately predict the final temperature when combining two different volumes of water at varying temperatures. Collaborating with lab probe ware, students devised strategies to find a precise estimate.

Meanwhile, in Grade 7 Social Studies, students are tackling a significant question: How should we manage the exploration and use of outer space?  This topic encourages them to think critically about the future of space governance and global cooperation. Those in the Disruptive Innovation and Technology class will have covered some of the issues with Space travel.

Mr. McCuaig will take eight talented singers to the AMIS Choir workshop in Tunis, where they’ll showcase their skills and collaborate with students from the Middle East and Europe.
Mr. Kasal is heading to Dubai with our wrestling team for a tournament, where a small group of dedicated athletes will represent our school.

It’s also recruiting season, so we’re planning next year’s schedule. Look for the course selection timeline we’ll share next week. Your support and students meeting the deadlines keep this annual process running smoothly.

A reminder that Semester One reports will be posted on Skyward next Wednesday, January 22nd. Please take some time to review the comments and discuss the feedback with your child.

Thank you for your continued support of the Middle School.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal
